Siegwerk Des Moines is looking for a motivated Production Supervisor to join our team!
Shift is Thursday, Friday and Saturday with every other Sunday (6am-6pm).
Job Summary
The Production Supervisor serves as the front-line leader and facilitator for their assigned process area(s) within the Production Department while performing routine production tasks such as machine operation, ingredient batching, filling of containers, etc.
Adheres to all departmental/company policies and standards including (but not limited to) maintaining a neat clean and safe work area; regular and consistent attendance and positive working relationships.
Job Responsibilities
Supervises production and/or warehouse employees following the organization's policies and applicable laws to ensure quality and efficiency of performance.
Performs day-to-day administrative responsibilities, such as:
- Accurately completing or approving payroll data and salary information, handling routine requests or inquiries and/or treats employees as per legal and company policies.
- Motivating workers to achieve daily targets and meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) for their Team on daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis.
- Responsible for monitoring and enforcing Standard Work.
- Working closely with the Manager to create needed standard work and conduct training of team members.
- Conducts & documents performance-related counseling sessions, as needed.
- Assists with interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; monitoring and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Daily, monthly, and annual Preventative Maintenance tasks for assigned team area(s).
- Responsible for shift changeover with on-going and off-going team leaders
- Daily shift startup huddle with team members
- Reporting to Supervisor covering past workday progress and current day expectations
- Daily end-of-shift report out to Supervisor.
- Maintaining Team Board and tool boards in assigned area(s)
- Coordinating supply of needed materials to meet production needs following Visual Management (i.e. Kanban) process and procedures or refers appropriately, completes timely performance reviews and documentation.
- Monitoring production flow and ensuring that product is produced and/or distributed according to customer needs, supervising staff, completing a variety of administrative duties, ensuring safety & inventory control and stopping ink shipments if quality is in question.
- Responsible for maintaining inventory of non-inventory items.
- Participates in meetings; communicates pertinent information, both verbally and in writing, to appropriate staff.
- Ensures that all safety procedures are met. (In small plant locations, may act as “safety director” by performing daily-to-annual inspections, conducts safety training, filing reports and maintaining documentation.
- Handles fire department & fire suppression equipment, safety/OSHA requirements, environmental reporting, and storm sewer inspections.)
- Corrects and/or reports any safety hazards and handles work-related accidents.
- Using SAP, Coupa, Microsoft Word, Excel, Shift connector, MII Dashboard
- Works closely with scheduler to determine which inks to be produced and shipped to meet schedules.
- Optimizes manufacturing processes by use of Siegwerk philosophy utilizing TOC and Six Sigma strategy.
- Understands the total impact of Throughput, Inventory and Operating Expenses. Uses this understanding to focus improvement efforts.
- Ensures proper housekeeping and improves the overall working environment of area of responsibility.
- Assists in the design, installation and/or manages new technology within the manufacturing process.
- Establishes and maintains training and process documentation for direct reports.
- Manages and monitors hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams. (If applicable.)
- May perform inventory cycle counts depending on-site location.
- Makes sure parts (raw materials, intermediates, containers, etc.) are in the buffer to maximize drum productivity
- Reconciles changes in the drum schedule based on what the buffer can support.
- Fills in for Plant or Production Manager as needed.
- Communicates shift priorities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Associates degree (2-year program) in related field with minimum of 2 years related manufacturing experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

- Ability to prioritize work from multiple sources.

- Knowledge of Siegwerk's production equipment, processes, and QC is strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Knowledge of TOC philosophy and Drum Buffer Rope management system helpful.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Basic computer skills required - Microsoft Word/Excel and E-mail. Varied office equipment – computer, printer, fax, etc., material handling and production equipment. Must be able to design computer forms for reports, as needed.
