Delta Star provides power solutions for utilities across North America. This includes the manufacturing of medium-power transformers, mobile transformers, mobile electrical substations, trailers, and unitized substations. We offer power transformers for utility applications including power and distribution, transmission voltages, system ties, and automatic voltage regulations, as well as industrial applications. Delta Star also provides comprehensive engineering, testing, maintenance services, and parts for any transformer manufacturer through our Field Service business unit, ensuring our customer's transformers and mobiles maintain peak performance.
Purpose
This position is responsible for meeting production goals by managing labor and materials in the most cost effective and efficient manner. Ensures production procedures are followed to meet manufacturing schedules, standards of quality and maintains safe and clean work environment.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Supervise a medium to large group of employees involved in plant production operations.
- Work is generally of a technical nature with the ability to make decisions within the limits of general standards and practices.
- Some direct guidance received from the Production Manager.
- Responsible for the effective use of labor, material, and equipment.
- Meets and maintains quality requirements.
- Complies with terms of local labor agreements.
- Practices and enforces safety and good housekeeping standards.
- Keeps management informed of developments as they occur.
- Builds and maintains good working relationships with employees, union (where present), and management.
- Understands and consistently administers the local agreements, participates in local labor relations activities.
- Motivates, trains, and develops employees to effectively perform their job utilizing standard methods.
- Ensures employees perform job responsibilities and empowers them to continuously improve their work by managing and eliminating constraints.
- Executes production schedule and product requirement by utilizing manufacturing processes with emphasis on variation reduction.
- Works with assigned employees as required on current and future assembly/fabrication process.
- Reduces waste by identifying and improving value added tasks and eliminating non-value-added tasks.
- Drives accountability to employees and holds them to standards of DSI practices.
Education & Experience
- College degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience supervising employees, union manufacturing environment preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in solving complex technical issues in manufacturing.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must be able to demonstrate sense of urgency and self-motivation; ability to work independently.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of manufacturing process and procedure.
- Knowledge of schedule and other management systems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with all levels of organization.
- Knowledge of quality control procedures.
