Job Purpose:
The Production Shift Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Production Area. This includes overseeing the production facilities for acrylonitrile/hydrogen cyanide, acetone cyanohydrin, and acetonitrile. The role encompasses a wide range of duties, from managing utilities and storage operations to ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
Location: Port Lavaca, TX
Shift Details:
- 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Work in various weather conditions.
Must Have
- At least 5 years of experience working inside a chemical plant
- Be willing to be on the Emergency Response Team
- At least one year of experience in a step-up or supervisory role.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations:
- Oversee production facilities including steam system, electrical generation, off-gas incineration, flares, crude acrylonitrile storage, product storage, and the Semi-Works reactor.
- Manage utilities and CBI facilities, including raw material storage, barge loading/unloading, drumming, railcar loading/unloading, and water treatment operations.
- Ensure the delivery of goods and services that meet product specifications and customer requirements.
- Issue orders, follow up on procedures, control results, and report statuses to execute the daily operating plan.
- Instigate changes in operating plans when conditions warrant.
Safety and Compliance:
- Execute all job activities safely and efficiently
- Recognize and address asset integrity concerns and safety risks.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, including TCEQ, DOT, USCG, GLO, OSHA, SARA, CERCLA, HON, NPDES, and UIC.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards.
- Participate in audits and interviews with OSHA, TCEQ, ISO, and other regulatory bodies.
Incident Management:
- Serve as the on-scene incident commander during plant emergencies, ensuring personnel safety and minimizing property and equipment losses.
- Conduct incident investigations and submit reports within 24 hours.
- Serve as the first point of contact for off-site incidents, including chemical transportation emergencies and incidents involving other area plants.
Personnel Management:
- Directly manage 16 technicians, providing coaching, counseling, and support.
- Conduct performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary actions as necessary.
- Oversee all shift training, including new and refresher training, both operational and regulatory.
- Assist in interviewing, observing, and instructing prospective new technicians.
Communication:
- Maintain complete and thorough shift relief notes.
- Keep the Production Manager and unit Day Managers informed of current operational conditions.
- Attend meetings as requested and provide operational information to engineering, maintenance, and other departments.
