About the Job
The Material Planner’s responsibilities include determining material specifications, creating and maintaining inventory schedules, coordinating with internal departments, and managing external stakeholder relations.
The Material Planner will interact with SAP and monitor transactions throughout the day to determine needed components for finished goods product. The Material Planner will communicate directly with our suppliers to ensure accurate and timely orders in a “just-in-time” production environment.
Job duties include evaluating container fleet size, part specification, and availability, ordering new and current products, and keeping accurate records in SAP and printed documents.
A successful Material Planner will be able to ensure the appropriate supply of cost-efficient and high-quality materials required to maintain steady production and product delivery in a fast pace, JIT environment.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Determining the required materials and generating scheduling agreements, manifests, or purchasing orders for our suppliers.
Ensuring materials meet specifications, customer quality standards, and are cost efficient
Ensuring the consistent and adequate supply of materials necessary (JIT) for production
Coordinating with other departments regarding production goals, KPI, timelines, supplier payments, etc.
Tracking production volume monitoring customer demand patterns and purchasing trends
Scheduling and overseeing the supply and delivery of materials and products
Liaising with customers, suppliers, and distributors
Managing inventory issues, engineering changes, schedules changes, and cancellations
Leading problem-solving sessions to determine root cause and counter measures
Preparing cost estimates and supplier performance reports
Ability to work outside of typical business hours and travel as needed (domestically and internationally)
ADDITIONAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
College degree in business, supply chain management, logistics, production inventory management, or a related field preferred.
3 years professional experience in material planning, purchasing, or a related position
Strong organization and time management skills
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and supply chain management
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and material management systems (SAP, ERP, WMS)
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and supply chain management
Automotive manufacturing and project management experience
