General Description:
To coordinate production related activities of designated area; to be responsible for production on specified machines or operations; assist sales, customer service, engineering, and inventory departments with production related activities; handle employee relations; and assist with long term planning for area of responsibility.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate production related activities of designated production area (50%)
- Schedule production to appropriate machines to assure high quality product
- Distribute work orders
- Perform or designate individual to set-up and operate machines
- Supervise machine operators to maximize their skills
- Troubleshoot, as needed, any production problems involving employees, machines, tools, or materials
- Oversee organization of tooling in tool storage areas
- Identify nonconforming product
- Consult with Quality Manager concerning disposition of nonconforming product
- Identify needs for maintenance, tooling and safety & schedule work with engineering
- Support other production area supervisors as necessary
- Handle employee relations (20%)
- Hire new employees
- Follow company policy to discipline, and/or dismiss employees
- Schedule vacations
- Monitor attendance system
- Monitor absences and tardies
- Follow orientation plan for new employees
- Train employees to set-up and/or operate machines according to work instructions
- Develop cross-training plans as appropriate
- Keep records of all training
- Conduct and document employee reviews, as necessary
- Assist sales, customer service, engineering, and inventory departments with production related activities (15%)
- Work with sales and/or customer service departments to ensure lead times and production capabilities are understood
- Work with engineering department to develop level III contract reviews, including cycle time estimates
- Assist the inventory department with the acquisition of materials
- Work with engineering source to communicate production capabilities and production processes desired.
- Run production meetings
- Complete corrective actions as needed
- Develop long range plans for production area (10%)
- Participate in machinery acquisition
- Participate in activities for overall company development (5%)
- Chair or serve on committees as needed
- Other duties as required
Minimum Previous Experience:
- Five years' experience in manufacturing company, with working knowledge of computer systems, training skills, interpersonal skills, and general understanding of inspection, engineering, machine repair, and troubleshooting concepts.
Minimum Educational Qualifications:
- MBA or Bachelor degree in a related field
- Or equivalent training and experience in manufacturing and marketing technology
