Position Overview
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations, the Production Manager is responsible for leading and managing the production team; ensuring production processes are conducted within safety, quality, efficiency, budgetary, and timeline requirements; developing production schedules; and reviewing the productivity and flow of production activities according to company needs and customer requirements.
The position requires excellent focus, high energy and enthusiasm, forward thinking, strong analytical capability, excellent problem solving, the ability to manage change, solid execution, and a commitment to help the company meet financial objectives and exceed customer expectations. This position also requires independent decision-making utilizing IPA’s procedures and guidelines.
Essential Job Functions and Basic Duties
- Coordinates and supervises daily production activities, meeting productivity requirements with allotted headcount while maintaining adherence to safety, quality, and financial requirements within required timelines.
- Sets priorities for the production team based on business and customer needs.
- Works with direct reports to ensure work processes are completed as scheduled.
- Identifies opportunities to improve safety, quality, and efficiency and to reduce cost.
- Manages employee relations for production personnel, including but not limited to recruiting, hiring, training, goal setting, performance management, coaching, counseling, discipline, termination, career development, and succession planning.
- With the Materials Manager, schedules production planning based on sales forecasts.
- Utilizing Lean principles, establishes a balance between productivity and cost of manufacturing operations, minimizing both overtime and downtime.
- Sets productivity goals for each manufacturing team.
- Ensures adequate staffing for required production processes. Reviews and approves attendance, PTO requests, and OT as needed. Provides written requests and justification for additional headcount, as needed.
- Establishes adequate scheduling of staff, including opportunities for cross-training and rotation.
- Provides verbal and written communication to all levels of the organization.
- Builds team relationships across functions, making departmental decisions within the framework of the broader organization’s needs and priorities.
- Ensures company policies and procedures are followed. Champions and sustains a speak up culture within the department. Models the company’s core values.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintains communication between the department and management through regular operational reports and/or attending staff meetings.
- Assists the Materials Manager and other team members when needed.
- Completes required reports and records accurately and promptly.
- Attends meetings and training as required.
- Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems or concerns.
- Contributes to the fulfillment of department and Company objectives and goals.
- Leads change initiatives. Identifies the best approach for implementing processes.
- Recommends improvements to the policies and procedures which affect the department.
- Adheres to established security safeguards, procedures and other Company policies.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
