About the Job
As a Production Manager in our facility, this individual will provide mentoring, coaching and train team members to develop effective and efficient teams. Ensure appropriate, effective communication within and across teams. Develop flexible, multi-skilled team members to enable the movement of people as needed to accomplish work. Collaborate with Plant Steering Team to develop and implement short- and long-term strategies for production strategies, efficiency, cost reduction, staffing and employee engagement.
Hours/Shift: 2nd shift, 12 PM - 8:30 PM (Core Hours); this role may require off shift hours, weekends or holidays as needed.
Job Duties:
- Meet at least weekly with Supervisors and Managers to review and discuss concerns regarding training and position movement processes.
- Partner with HR when needed regarding employee headcount, LOA, etc.
- Coach and mentor training coordinators to enhance the effectiveness and potential of the team.
- Engage on KPI regarding the production capacity of the plant equipment, downtime (planned v unplanned), staffing levels, etc.
- Coordinate cross functional team to improve efficiencies of the plant based on findings.
- Communicate effectively, timely, and professionally with co-workers, leadership, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate data reaches all audiences.
- Strong production floor presence.
- Collaborate with supervisors to ensure that evaluations are completed timely for production employees.
- Partner with cross-functional leadership team to ensure operations support and prioritize issues that need addressed.
- Responsible for the coordination of the on-shift trainee and trainer alignment and progress.
- Publish staffing schedule based on approved manufacturing schedule with adherence to scheduling standards for overtime, SMETA guidance, available staff, and production runs two weeks in advance for approximately 200 employees based on crew, shift, and job.
- Maintain and report out on a skills matrix to support staffing due to last minute absences, leaves of absence, weather, etc., and to support a robust cross training function to develop more utilitarian roles within the plant.
- Analyze hourly production workforce to capitalize on internal talent but also to build a pipeline of talent for career development opportunities.
Experience-Education (Required):
- Bachelor's Degree and 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, food/dairy manufacturing highly preferred.
- In lieu of degree, 5+ years experience in a manufacturing setting with advancement in responsibility/leadership.
- Experience with direct reports & leadership experience, training.
- Experience with GMP's, HAACP, sanitation, and quality assurance preferred.
- Strong presentation, communication, training and interpersonal skills.
- Proven track record of understanding the drivers of product and labor cost variances.
