In business since 1935, Daubert Chemical Company is a profitable, privately-owned specialty chemical manufacturer of industrial corrosion control and rust preventive coatings, greases, and adhesives; we are a market leader in the brands that we sell to our end users and distributors. We are seeking an experienced Production Operator as our Production Lead for 3rd shift.
As the Production Lead, you will lead the team to meet manufacturing schedules on 3nd shift in the Metalworking Department, but also formulate the batches alongside team members. The Lead Formulator is to ensure the safe, efficient and timely completion of the production plan, address any problems that may arise and troubleshoot any bottlenecks that impact production. 3rd shift hours are 9pm-5:30am Sunday night to Friday morning; mandatory overtime may be required based on business necessity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to the following-
- Communicate with 1st shift production supervisor and scheduling (as needed) to review the status of daily production schedule (batches in process) to understand priorities. Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
- Turn on critical equipment (i.e. chiller, boilers, air compressors, air drier) after power outages / city water supply problems.
- Contact Maintenance Department or Engineering regarding equipment problems.
- Escalate critical safety or process related issues to management.
- Lead by example in working safely; ensuring all work gets done without incident. Timely reporting of injuries, damage and near misses that are critical to risk management.
- Promotes positive teamwork and respectful interaction in the group with regular presence on the plant floor.
- Ensuring work being executed to process production jobs is in accordance with SOP’s and safety guidelines.
- Monitor key high-risk processes to ensure safe work environment is maintained.
- Be aware of critical process steps of each batch and ensure that they are executed properly.
- Assist other Formulators in troubleshooting and problem solving.
- Be aware of when batches need to go to QA and ensure that tanks are sampled in a timely manner.
- Provide supervisory double-check sign off on Metalworking department batch tickets before they are turned into QA lab.
- Interface with QA to ensure batch is within specifications prior to packaging.
- Conduct or assign employee training on equipment operation, work practices and safety procedures; ensure assigned employee training is effective and completed on time. May be required to complete disciplinary documentation while following the Company’s policies and applicable laws.
- Applies 5S tools to improve and sustain work area orderliness and cleanliness.
- Adherence to ISO quality practices and procedures.
- Evaluate and document employee performance within all applicable deadlines. Recommend and execute employee actions such as resolving conflicts and problems, hiring, discipline, or promotions in conjunction with HR.
- Informs management of any issues or problems so that product quality is not compromised and deadlines are met.
- Ensures that all manufacturing documentation is accurate and completed on time.
- Act quickly and report any plant emergency accordingly with proper authorities and plant management. Responsible to make decision to send employee for treatment in a medical emergency.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required, plus 5 years related chemical formulating in a manufacturing environment. Previous lead experience preferred.
Will use company email in Microsoft Outlook; possess working knowledge of internet, intranet, data entry and reporting; training LMS; use of ERP system is required daily.
- Understanding processes and mechanics of production line equipment. Ability to learn the chemical operations in a results-oriented, dynamic plant environment and assume more responsibility over expected timeframe.
- Ability to be an on-shift resource for troubleshooting problems in the process
