Role and Responsibilities· The candidate will apply skills and experience in additive manufacturing (AM) to: · Ensure success of manufacturing operations (including planning, monitoring, measuring) · Perform operation and maintenance of printing machines and post-processing equipment · Perform ancillary administrative and logistics tasks to support product throughput · The ideal candidate has experience in a production environment with operation and maintenance of industrial additive manufacturing machines, knowledge of AM post-processing methods (finishing, testing, and inspection) for metal powder bed fusion, and excellent technical problem-solving skills. Interpersonal skills are also critical for properly communicating with internal stakeholders. Primary Tasks · Maintain an intimate working knowledge of plastic and metal powder bed fusion AM machines (SLM, GE Arcam, EOS, JEOL, etc.) · Serve as the primary subject matter expert and process owner for machine operation and preventive maintenance · Develop operating procedures, work instructions, and forms to support repeatable production processes. Own the documents related to operating printing machines and post-processing equipment. · Support new projects and new product introduction by establishing and improving production processes and workflow. · Train machine technicians on operation and maintenance of the AM machines and post-processing equipment · Lead and provide technical direction for manufacturing technicians · Provide "hands-on" support with printing, post-processing, and inspection equipment · Evaluate builds for success. Recommend corrective actions (design or setup) for unsuccessful builds · Work closely with application engineers to ensure continuity between quoted work scope and the quality of the output products. · Assist on coordinating internal operations to reduce down-time and ensure clarity in scope · Coordinate maintenance activities on equipment (internal and outsourced). Serve as the primary point of contact for supplier field service representatives/maintenance technicians performing work on equipment in the facility. · Document lessons learned and best practices to continually improve processes Secondary Tasks: · Provide support in quoting for printing and post-processing activities · Create build files using Materialise Magics, including nesting and support generation, aiming to optimize efficiency and probability of success · Run secondary processing equipment (mills, lathes, bandsaw, finishing equipment) · Generate Bill of Materials and Routings for production orders · Coordinate outside processing purchase orders, shipment, and tracking Other Tasks: · As part of a growing business, you may be asked to perform other duties not specifically listed in the job description. Qualifications and Education Requirements· Position title and compensation may range from Production Engineer I up to Senior Engineer based on qualifications and experience. Candidates shall meet the minimum requirements stated below. · Engineering degree in a related discipline (mechanical, metallurgical, etc.) · Minimum 1 year experience in additive manufacturing (powder bed fusion preferred, but not required). · Experience with the following software: Microsoft Office · This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee. · Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Level I: Degreed Engineer with some additive manufacturing experience (professional or through formal studies). Developing skills in processing 3D printed components (printing, de-powdering, heat treating, finishing, CNC Machining, testing, and others). Shows understanding of machine operation, with growing mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Guides technicians at lower levels. Level II: Degreed Engineer with 2+ years of additive manufacturing experience. Masters degree in AM or equivalent may count for up to 2 years of experience. Possesses skills and previous experience in processing 3D printed components (printing, de-powdering, heat treating, finishing, CNC Machining, testing, and others). Shows considerable skill in machine operation, while also exhibiting a consistently timely and thoughtful approach to problem solving. Brings wisdom from previous experience to the team, works autonomously, and supports operational objectives successfully by driving continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives. Serves as a mentor to technicians at lower levels. Level III: Degreed Engineer with 5+ years of additive manufacturing experience. Masters degree in AM or equivalent may count for up to 2 years of experience. Possesses extensive skills and previous experience in processing 3D printed components (printing, de-powdering, heat treating, finishing, CNC Machining, testing, and others). Shows expert skill in machine setup and troubleshooting, while exhibiting a consistently timely and thoughtful approach to problem solving. Brings wisdom from extensive previous experience to the team, works autonomously, and champions continuous improvement and lean manufacturing projects. Serves as a mentor to technicians and production engineers at lower levels. Senior: Degreed Engineer with 7+ years of additive manufacturing. Masters degree in AM or equivalent may count for up to 2 years of experience. Possesses extensive skills and previous experience in processing 3D printed components (printing, de-powdering, heat treating, finishing, CNC Machining, testing, and others). Brings wisdom from previous experience to the team (additive manufacturing and post processing), works autonomously, and supports business development objectives successfully by building customer relationships. Maintains awareness of technical industry trends and best practices and uses that knowledge to ideate and drive continuous improvement for the engineering and production teams. Develops strategic plans for manufacturing-related projects to increase capability and technical breadth within the organization. Serves as a mentor to technicians and engineers at lower levels. Preferred Additional Qualifications and Education· Field Service or equipment maintenance experience with industrial AM machines. · Prior experience and skills in hand-finishing, mill or lathe operation, and/or non-destructive testing · Experience with Materialise Magics software and/or Computer Aided Design · First-hand experience with SLM, EOS and GE Additive Arcam platforms · First-hand experience with mechanical and electrical systems, compressed air supply, and inert gas handling · Experience with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 Revision D · Quality Lab Experience (Dimensional inspection, testing, metallurgy) · Logistics experience (packaging, shipping) |
