SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
This position primarily involves the design, testing, and development of Roper Pump’s innovative new products. The individual will provide product oversight and engineering project management expertise to evaluate, develop, validate, and implement new designs, as well as improve and enhance existing products. The design engineer will engage with cross functional groups involving team members from Outside Sales, Manufacturing, Supply chain, and Quality during design development cycles to gain critical knowledge and understanding of product requirements. SolidWorks proficiency is required. Prior experience with design of rotating equipment is highly desirable. Leadership and teamwork characteristics are necessary for this position. Timely execution of deliverables is also critical to this role.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Design mechanical rotating equipment such as external gear pumps, progressing cavity pumps, hydraulic systems, testing systems and instruments.
- Originate and/or develop designs for products relating to defined customer requirements and parameters, including possible proprietary items.
- Plan and direct the production of prototypes to meet customer or internal requirements, which include long-term strategic developments for new product, large cost reductions, and product line extensions that require development of the technology to meet customer needs.
- Lead new product development efforts from the concept phase to the product launch phase - including supplier selection, manufacturing handoff, test development, process support, and early sustaining.
- Document new designs and changes using SolidWorks.
- Lead a cross functional team in the development of new products.
- Track and report the status of new product development progress.
- Perform requirements analyses and create engineering specifications.
- Develop rapid prototypes to aid in feasibility and scoping.
- Perform risk analysis and mitigation planning for projects.
- Model, develop, and evaluate proposed new designs using experience and rigorous engineering evaluation and analysis.
- Hold design reviews and FMEAs.
- Create test plans, then execute & support lab, functional, environmental & field test efforts to validate designs.
- Determine the root cause of product design problems using the scientific method.
- Perform root cause analysis on field failures, provide thorough reports of findings in a timely manner to outside sales.
- Aid in the development of Technical Publications and other product support materials.
- Complete all responsibilities in a timely and professional manner while maintaining quality.
- Perform other duties as required by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for the leadership and direction of manufacturing operations.

Significant time on the production floor is required; the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, noise levels encountered will vary from heavy machining to minimum noise level. Likewise, this individual may be exposed to fumes from chemicals and soldering glues in the manufacturing areas. The individual holding this position will be working in an administrative environment with heavy PC use. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- The most important quality that a candidate can possess is the desire for solving problems and continuous improvement.
- BS Degree in Engineering.
- An understanding that we are designing to satisfy customer requirements.
- Exposure to new product design, development, and sustainment, including the designing and documenting of products at the detail, assembly, and system levels using typical CAD and document management tools and processes is preferred.
- Proficiency in the use of SolidWorks is required.
- Solid reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership, time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to interact cooperatively and collaboratively with others as a team.
- Proficient in the project management of complex problems and projects.
- Exhibits commitment to quality and professionalism.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS
- Knowledge of rotating equipment, processes, and specifications.
- The ideal candidate will have experience in design with material selection and testing.
- Manufacturing experience is a plus.
- The ideal candidate will also have experience working with LabView or similar applications. The ability to design and setup testing to run and collect data autonomously.
- Prior experience with project management and new product development.
- Experience in design for manufacturing processes including machining, welding, and assembly.
- Knowledge of industry utilized design standards - ANSI, ISO, etc.
- Experience with quality processes and systems.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries from customers or regulatory agencies.
- Ability to effectively present information to management, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations such as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw reliable conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and work with several abstract and concrete variables.
