Position Overview
The Procurement Specialist is responsible for managing all aspects of the Company’s procurement processes including locating key suppliers, negotiating purchasing agreements, and preparation of purchase orders.
Essential Job Functions and Basic Duties
- Identifies suppliers of goods and services for the Company with consideration to cost, quality, lead time, business continuity, and diversity.
- Negotiates terms with suppliers (e.g. price, quality, quantity, lead time, method of delivery, expectations, etc.).
- Liaises with suppliers regarding material changes, delivery dates and quantities, and pricing.
- Creates purchase orders based on manufacturing needs and sales forecasts.
- Analyzes invoices for accuracy and authorizes Accounts Payable to issue payment.
- Monitors inventory to ensure the flow of goods remains positive.
- Works with the Legal department to ensure any contractual obligations are favorable to the company.
- Works closely with the Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to understand details of procurement requirements.
- Evaluates and communicates vendor performance to drive improvement and value for the Company.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assists the Buyer/Planner and other team members when needed.
- Completes required reports and records accurately and promptly.
- Attends meetings and training as required.
- Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems or concerns.
- Contributes to the fulfillment of department and Company objectives and goals.
- Adheres to established security safeguards, procedures, and other Company policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelors degree in Business Administration or Supply Chain Management or relevant field. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- 3+ years’ experience in procurement.
- Experience with production, materials, and inventory workflow is a must.
- Experience working with a major MRP package.
- Experience working with SalesForce is a plus but not required.
- Experience using Kanban systems highly preferred.
Required Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the manufacturing process, including logistics requirements between our vendors and our facility.
- High MS proficiency (including Excel).
- Knowledge of the Company’s operations and management.
- General business and financial knowledge.
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures Knowledge of company policies and procedures.
Skills/Abilities:
- Possess excellent organizational skills with the flexibility to readily adapt to change.
- Strong analytical skill set with Excel and other data query tools.
- Experience in cycle-time analysis; ability to analyze and manage the drivers of lead times to deliver responsive service while minimizing inventory.
- Ability to apply process mapping and other problem-solving tools to understand current business processes, identify non-value added activities, eliminate or modify non-value added activities, and develop improved processes that reduce cycle time, improve quality, reduce cost or demonstrate other measures of improved efficiency or effectiveness.
- Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of the Company.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Work Schedule / Position Status:
- Monday to Friday: 8:00am – 5:00pm
- Full Time – Regular
