A Procurement Engineer plays a vital role in sourcing, evaluating, and purchasing materials, equipment, and services essential for a company's operations. This position involves managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and securing the best possible prices and terms, all while maintaining quality and ensuring compliance with project specifications. Procurement Engineers collaborate closely with project management teams across industries, such as manufacturing and construction, to meet operational goals.
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers to ensure they meet company requirements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors.
- Negotiate contract terms to secure favorable pricing and delivery schedules.
Technical Sourcing:
- Understand technical requirements of projects.
- Analyze supplier capabilities and select vendors based on quality, cost, and delivery timelines.
Contract Management:
- Draft and oversee procurement contracts, ensuring compliance with legal and company policies.
- Address and resolve any contractual disputes.
Cost Optimization:
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through competitive bidding, volume discounts, and supplier negotiations.
Quality Control:
- Monitor supplier performance to ensure delivered goods meet quality standards and project specifications.
Procurement Strategy Development:
- Analyze market trends and identify potential risks.
- Propose cost-effective procurement solutions and contribute to overall strategy.
Purchase Order Management:
- Issue and track purchase orders to suppliers.
- Manage delivery timelines and ensure timely fulfillment of orders.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with project teams, engineering departments, and other internal stakeholders to identify procurement needs and facilitate timely material delivery.
Required Skills:
- Technical Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials science, and industry-specific technical specifications.
- Negotiation Skills:
- Proven ability to negotiate favorable contract terms with suppliers.
- Analytical Skills:
- Ability to evaluate supplier proposals, analyze market data, and identify cost-effective solutions.
- Communication Skills:
- Effective communication with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and project teams.
- Compliance Awareness:
- Knowledge of relevant procurement regulations and compliance standards.
- Project Management Skills:
- Capability to manage procurement activities within project timelines and budget constraints.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (Preferred).
Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in Procurement Engineering (Preferred).
- 2+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience (Preferred).
- 2+ years of experience in utility or nuclear work sites (Preferred).
- 2+ years of experience completing evaluations on new components (Preferred).
Work Location:
- In-person.
