In this role Amgen is seeking Process Development Principal Scientist with industry experience in the manufacturing of synthetic peptides, oligonucleotides, and/or antibody drug conjugates to join our Drug Substance Technologies - Synthetics (DSTS) group.
Amgen’s DSTS group within Process Development (PD) is responsible for the invention, development, characterization, and implementation of synthetic drug substance manufacturing processes and technologies to advance Amgen's innovative small molecule and hybrid portfolio.
The Principal Scientist role will include supporting the development of efficient and sustainable manufacturing processes to prepare peptides, oligonucleotides, and/or antibody drug conjugates, driving technology innovation to support bio-conjugation, and providing technical expertise towards manufacturing and commercialization.Key Responsibilities:Work with a diverse team of synthetic chemists, chemical engineers and analytical chemists to develop sustainable and cost-effective processes for synthetic peptide, oligonucleotide, and/or antibody drug conjugate manufacturingDrive technology innovation in the synthesis, purification, and characterization of bio-conjugatesSupport cGMP manufacturing and technology transfer to large-scale production facilitiesDevelop strategies to ensure process performance through process understanding, modeling and characterizationGuide successful completion of project deliverables and ensure timelines are metWork cross-functionally to deliver regulatory documents and support regulatory filingsServe as a technical expert and keep current in the field of peptide, oligonucleotide, and antibody drug conjugate manufacturingCoach and provide career and scientific / technical advice to colleagues within the organizationWinWhat we expect of youWe are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients.
The scientific professional we seek will possess these qualifications.Basic Qualifications:Doctorate degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemical Biology with 2+ years of industry experienceOrMaster’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemical Biology and 5+ years of industry experienceOrBachelor’s degree and 7 years of industry experiencePreferred Qualifications:Experience working in pharmaceutical industry with expertise in synthetic peptide, oligonucleotide, and/or antibody drug conjugate process development and manufacturing with working knowledge of regulatory expectationsExtensive hands-on expertise in the synthesis and purification of peptides, oligonucleotides, and/or antibody drug conjugates and experience with bio-conjugation techniquesProficiency in analytical characterization techniques such as Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography (HIC)-HPLC, Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC), Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), Ion-Exchange (IEX), and Reversed Phase (RP)-HPLC.Demonstrated ability to work within a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment to achieve resultsPeople-centered leadership skills in building strong teams through mutual trust and respect and exhibits Amgen leadership attributes of inspire, accelerate, integrate, and adaptProven track record of publications, patents and presentationsThriveWhat you can expect of usAs we work to develop treatments that take care of others, we also work to care for our teammates’ professional and personal growth and well-being.The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S.
