About the Job
Functioning within the Health System’s mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, the Unit Secretary/ PCT functions as a partner to the Registered Nurse with the goal of providing quality patient care. In addition to patient care, the Unit Secretary/ PCT transcribes physician orders and performs a variety of clerical tasks as needed.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED) is preferred. Additional education in medical terminology and/or clerical skills is preferred. Must successfully complete LMHS Sec/PCT orientation program and demonstrate competency on all skills.
Licensure/Certification: Current BLS required.
Must be actively registered as an STNA in the State of Ohio; OR
As an RN student, have completed 2ndquarter or 1stsemester clinicals in a Nursing Associate’s Degree or diploma program or be a 2ndyear student in a B.S.N program; OR
As an LPN student, have completed2ndquarter or 1stsemester clinicals in a Licensed Practical Nurse Training Program.
Experience: Previous experience as a Patient Care Tech or Unit Secretary is preferred.
Skills: Must have excellent “customer service” skills, including the ability to exhibit patience and tact with all constituents including physicians, patients and associates. Must demonstrate flexibility with work schedule changes, be cooperative and collaborative, and have the documented ability to work with speed and proficiency while under stress. Must have basic computer skills and EMR (electronic medical records) experience. Must be able to print and write legibly and accurately. Must obtain skills in word processing and data entry. Must obtain skills of reception and directing of patients . Must demonstrate the ability to administer hearing screen tests using specified protocols and procedures to infants in the nursery. Must obtain computer efficient skills in documenting hearing screen results in medical records as indicated by established protocols. Must demonstrate the ability to obtain birth information from parent(s). Must be able to review patient medical records and other resources, as needed, to obtain required birth information. Must be able to collaborate with charge nurse. Must possess teachable quality.
