The Systems Engineering (SE) Directorate is the central focus for Mission Systems Integration activities within Raytheon, responsible for defining customer needs, functional and product architecture, requirements definition and decomposition, Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), system performance, and System Security Engineering (SSE).
The Land Warfare and Missile Defense Systems (LWMDS) is looking for a Principal Systems Engineer to join the LWMDS team. LWMDS supports all aspects of Systems Engineering that facilitate the development of complex systems to support various Raytheon programs around the world. The LWMDS department supports Raytheon by cultivating a world-class group of systems thinkers who work together as a team to architect technical solutions to some of the world’s toughest challenges. Key technical domains include Radar Systems and Sensor Netting, Effector Systems, Battle Management, Command and Control, Communications, Network Design, Battlespace Integration, and Interoperability for Domestic and International customers.

This position is an onsite role located in Huntsville, Alabama.
What You will Do:
- You will provide M&S development for radar tracking algorithms and conduct performance analyses and trade studies related to tracking functions for the Missile Defense Agency.
- You will develop and implement medium-to-high fidelity, object-oriented MATLAB models and simulations (M&S) which include sensing phenomenology, signal processing, detection, tracking, and discrimination functionalities.
- You will provide subject matter expertise into radar tracking and sensor fusion and coordinate analysis activities and products with functional group and senior company stakeholders, and government personnel responsible for executing analysis tasks.
- You will document analysis results in reports and briefings to be presented to the Missile Defense National Team (MDNT) and Missile Defense Agency (MDA).
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a Bachelor of Science in Science, Technology, Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of Systems Engineering or related technical discipline.
- Technical experience in radar tracking system methodologies, including one or more of the following;
- State estimation (Extended Kalman Filtering (EKF)
- Interacting Multiple Model (IMM))
- Detection-to-track association (Global Nearest Neighbor (GNN)
- Multiple Hypothesis Tracking (MHT))
- General track management
- Experience modeling aspects of tracking systems within a MATLAB simulation environment and support tracking-related analyses
- Active and transferable Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Advanced Degree in STEM
- Experience in tracking systems within elements of the Missile Defense System
- Experience in one or more of the following tracking areas: sensor fusion techniques, tracking algorithms for both radar and electro-optical sensors, electromagnetic attack, creation of novel tracking system algorithms, and/or algorithm optimizations, tracking configuration management software
- Object-oriented programming experience
- Experience conducting system of systems analysis and trade studies
- Experience working independently and in a team environment
- Experience working with other disciplines and communicating with all levels of the organization and stakeholders

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
