Make your impact by exploring a career with the world’s leading Medical Device company, striving “to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life.” As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be a lead contributor to the software that drives the behavior of the Robotic Assisted Surgery platform.
You will focus on the design, development, and testing of software that drives the behavior of surgical stapling and bipolar electrosurgical vessel sealing instruments. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:Design and develop software in Simulink and C++ that enables surgeons and operating-room staff to control HugoDevelop requirements with a cross-functional team to define the behavior of Hugo’s softwareTriage defects, develop software unit tests, and review the testing team’s software verification protocols.Analyze the software for failure modes and develop solutions that mitigate risk.Contribute updates to your team’s software documentation and architecture.Improve the quality of your team’s software through design reviews, and ensure your work complies with the procedures of the organization’s quality management system.Join an Agile Scrum team that collaboratively plans sprints, improves the quality of the team's backlog of tickets, and defines and completes tasks.Must Have: Minimum RequirementsBachelor’s Degree with 7 years of relevant experienceOr advanced degree with 5 years of relevant experience. Nice to HaveMedical Device ExperienceExperience developing software for commercial products, preferably in regulated industriesExperience with medical product development is highly desired, including knowledge of regulatory processes such as IEC 62304, safety considerations, and hands-on experience with medical devices and surgical instruments Software Engineering ExperienceStrong knowledge of computer science, including how embedded systems, operating systems, and compilation workExperience developing software in C/C++, including experience with object-oriented and functional programmingExperience developing software in Simulink, including experience with Stateflow and Simulink CoderExperience using common software development tools on Linux, including the Bash shell, build automation (CMake preferred), code coverage, unit testing, static analysis, debugging, and source control (Git preferred) Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail, with ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to build consensus and establish common goalsExperience working with diverse teams across the globeFluency in English Physical Job RequirementsThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this position, but they are not an exhaustive list of all the required responsibilities and skills of this position. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location.
