The system will power Start feed across a wide range of products like Windows, Edge, Super app, Skype, and Outlook. As a **Principal** **Software Engineer** in the team, you will be directly impacting billions of users of Microsoft Start. In alignment with our Microsoft values, we are committed to cultivating an inclusive work environment for all employees to positively?impact?our culture every day. **Responsibilities** + Lead the architectural design and development of complex distributed software systems. + Partner deeply across disciplines as well as across teams to help deliver results and products that are highly reliable and scalable, learning constantly while solving tough technical challenges. + Providing technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and grow them in their career. + Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to other engineers. + Hands-on engineer who delivers high quality code that is maintainable, performant, and testable and used in cross products. + Collaborate with product managers, and partner teams to understand requirements, translate them into technical specifications and to an implementable solution for which success is measurable and has timelines specified. + Embody our Culture (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/about/corporate-values) and Values (https://careers.microsoft.com/us/en/culture) **Qualifications** **Required Qualifications:** + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python + OR equivalent experience. + 6+ years of experience in software development and designing front-end applications. + 6+ years of experience in complex software projects over multiple releasescovering all stages of the product/service lifecycle. + 5+ years of experience developing web frameworks and crafting rich, interactive user interfaces using TypeScript, React, or similar technologies. **Preferred Qualifications:** + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python + OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python + OR equivalent experience. + Experience with building software systems that apply security best practices. + Desire to improve performance, availability, and reliability of services. + Motivated to increase efficiencies through automation. Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
