Microsoft Azure Storage is a highly distributed, massively scalable, and ubiquitously accessible cloud storage platform. It is one of the world's largest storage systems, supporting Exascale (Exabytes of data) and growing rapidly.
We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to drive data driven development with big data pipelines, analysis, and problem resolution across the entire storage stack. As a Principal Software engineer, you will get the opportunity to partner across all of Azure Storage and partner teams in Azure, driving big data pipelines, Infrastructure, data analysis and ML. You will have the opportunity to design, implement and release software solutions for bettering the Storage Infrastructure, and big data pipelines, in all phases of software development. This opportunity is a highly visible position across the organization with an opportunity to deliver high impact via partnership across all areas of Azure Storage.

**Responsibilities**
+ Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features. Begins to leverage a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes. Reviews work items to deepen knowledge of features in partnership with appropriate stakeholders and executes project plans, release plans, and work items.
+ Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Writes and learns to create code that is extensible and maintainable. Considers diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability with few defects, and understands when the code is ready to be shared and delivered.
+ Leverages subject-matter expertise of cross-product features with appropriate stakeholders to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items.
+ Holds accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
+ Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.

**Qualifications**
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java or Python
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 4+ years of professional software development experience building scalable, distributed services
+ 4+ years experience in analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems
Other Requirements:
+ Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:?Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Passion for learning and coding
+ Analytical and problem-solving skills
+ Experience in storage systems, including storage hardware
+ Experience with big data pipelines, e.g. Kusto, Geneva, or similar
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
