We have an exciting opportunity for aPrincipal Software Engineer [Embedded Systems]to join our Electro-Optical & Infrared (EO/IR) Solutions Engineering Team, which is part of our Advanced Products & Solutions group.
What you will do:
Design, implement, code, test, document, optimize and support systems integration in support of mission critical advanced surveillance and targeting system solutions. You will work closely with software architects and systems engineers to ensure solutions meet system and subsystem level functional and performance requirements.
- Perform requirements analysis / definition to ensure the system will meet all customer requirements.
- Participate in software design and development, as well as supporting system integration and test, all using the established Raytheon engineering processes and practices.
- Support design, development, testing and integration of embedded software applications.
- Develop C++ applications and time critical control functions involved in direct control of sensor systems running on Linux.
- Assist in developing architecture and design of high throughput/high performance computing platforms utilizing general purpose CPUs and GPUs.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplined team where there are experienced engineers to provide mentoring and support.
- Use modular design approaches and/or agile software development techniques for a high quality, supportable software system.
- Maintain Secret Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.
- Work onsite at McKinney, TX
- Travel and support off-site facilities as needed.
Qualifications you must have:
- Minimum of 8 years professional experience in software design, development, integration and testing utilizing C / C++ or similar.
- Experience across multiple phases of software lifecycle, including software implementation and system integration.
- Experience in developing video processing applications/similar.
- Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), e.g., VxWorks, RTLinux, etc.
- Experience with design, code, integration, and testing of software for embedded platforms; and with HW/SW level interfaces
- Development experience on Linux platforms.
- Must be able to acquire U.S. government issued Secret security clearance after start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred).
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Knowledge of multiple phases of software lifecycle, including software implementation and system integration.
- Container experience (docker, podman).
- Experience working with Electro-Optical and Infrared Sensors (EO/IR) sensors.
- Prior surveillance and targeting system software development experience.
- Ethernet/Networking TCP/IP, UDP communications application development.
- Development for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8+ with a Redhawk real time kernel.
- Experience with performance tuning and monitoring.
- Experience with DevSecOps methodologies and tools.
- Demonstrated experience learning new technologies, methodologies and processes quickly.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
