Principal Site Reliability Engineer, Bitbucket Cloud - Atlassian

We are looking for a reliability expert who is passionate about scaling Cloud services to join our growing SRE team. You are someone who is aware of current industry trends (those related to reliability) and who excels at working with a diverse set of partners, who can articulate the business impact of a problem and can also dive deep into the technical solution.

We'd love it if you brought a deep understanding of modern Cloud infrastructure, programming expertise, operational experience and a desire to change the status quo.

The nature of this role involves working with our Australian teams. While ideal candidates would be in the Mountain or Pacific Time Zones, we're open to those in other time zones who are willing to adjust their schedules for effective collaboration.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze and help improve our services and processes to achieve higher levels of reliability, performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.

• Advocate for reliability methodologies and work with a variety of platform, product and SRE teams to build reliability into our platform and increase adoption of those practices into our products.

• Set and deliver a technical direction for the team, navigating tradeoffs and aligning the roadmap with business priorities.

• Mentor growing engineers through consistent, constructive feedback.

Qualifications:

On your first day, we'll expect you to have:

• Expert-level proficiency with 8+ years of experience in one or more prominent languages such as Python or Go.

• Expert-level proficiency with 5+ years experience in public cloud offerings (AWS components like EC2, CloudFormation, RDS / Aurora, Caches, SQS - or equivalents, e.g. in GCP / Azure).

• Expert-level proficiency with 5+ years experience in operating high-availability, fault-tolerant, scalable, distributed software in production: building monitoring into your code, tweaking dashboards, defining alerts, writing runbooks, etc.

• An ability to communicate complex technical issues to a range of technical and non-technical audiences (management, peers, clients).

• Experience in driving large, complex, cross-organizational initiatives from inception to completion.

• At least 3 years of experience mentoring and coaching engineers.

It would be great, but not mandatory if you had:

• Expertise with data stores (RDBMS, time-series database, NoSql, search, analytics).

• Expertise with high-performance Cloud-based file systems.

Compensation

At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:

Zone A: $201,600 - $268,700

Zone B: $181,400 - $241,900

Zone C: $167,300 - $223,100

This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
