Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Project Engineer to join our dynamic team in San Diego, CA. In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams on impactful, landmark projects within the San Diego region. Key Responsibilities:
Management Responsibilities:
- Supervise and mentor a team of technical staff, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
- Manage construction documents, contracts, and schedules, ensuring all deliverables are met.
- Oversee project coordination in the field, providing construction support and addressing issues as they arise.
- Prepare contracts, fee proposals, and scopes of work for new projects.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, public-agency personnel, and in-house teams, building strong, positive relationships.
- Lead and manage design and support staff, ensuring effective collaboration and project execution.
Technical Responsibilities:
- Conduct conceptual and preliminary engineering design studies, incorporating land use, zoning considerations, site constraints, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and process regulatory plans and public improvement plans for both private and public projects.
- Perform constructability reviews and provide technical expertise on a range of construction support services.
- Ensure all work complies with jurisdictional codes, standards, and procedures, with a strong emphasis on California and regional requirements.
- Utilize AutoCAD/Civil 3D to prepare exhibits, studies, and final plans.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
- Certification: California Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (or ability to obtain within the next 6 months).
- Experience: Minimum of 8-12 years of relevant experience in civil engineering or equivalent work experience of 12-15 years in the industry.
- Leadership: A minimum of 3 years of management experience, including supervising technical staff and leading projects.
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles and techniques for civil engineering design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D software.
- Familiarity with regulatory plans, public improvement plans, and constructability reviews.
- Knowledge of jurisdictional codes, standards, and procedures in California is highly preferred.
- Experience with project management, including budgeting, scheduling, and client interactions.
Additional Skills:
- Excellent leadership and supervisory skills, with a demonstrated ability to make independent decisions and manage projects effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, team members, and public agencies.
- Proven ability to manage resources and project schedules to meet deadlines and project goals.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage and resolve conflicts effectively.
- Ability to perform at a high level under pressure while maintaining a focus on quality and client satisfaction.
