Job Title: Principal Mechanical Development Engineer
Job Location: 305 Franklin Street, Columbus, Indiana 47201, and various unanticipated worksites throughout the U.S.
Duties
LER TechForce, LLC seeks a Principal Mechanical Development Engineer in Columbus, Indiana, and various unanticipated worksites throughout the U.S. Telecommuting permitted 3 days/week. Duties: participate in design reviews of test procedures, specifications, and methods; perform destructive testing (tensile, compression, in-plane shear, inter-laminar shear strength, Mode I, compression after impact) and non-destructive testing (ultrasound inspection, C-scan); use data acquisition equipment for instrument and program test cell; design fixtures for tests; evaluate and document prototype performance and identify potential for improvement; analyze test results and recommend design modifications; contribute to DFMEA process; write and review test reports; develop test schedules; coach, mentor, lead and train entry-level Mechanical Development Engineers; develop process improvement and implementation plans; conduct comparative studies on products, process and test equipment; stay abreast of new technology and competitors' products; optimize fixture and tooling designs; perform reliability analysis.
Requirements
Master's degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field, and 4 years of experience (gained at any time) in an engineering or technical role which included at least one of the skills listed below. Included within the 4 years of experience, must have experience in all of the following: virtual modeling tools (GT-Power, AMESim, SystemDesk, Creo, or SolidWorks); using CAD software (CATIA, Unigraphics, SolidWorks, ProE, Autodesk Inventor, or AutoCAD), and releasing data in Teamcenter or Windchill; analyzing stamping feasibility for sheet metal products for automotive applications; Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T); Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA); communicating with assembly plants and suppliers regarding development and production prototype issues; using PTC Integrity or other lifecycle management system to track product validation process; Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using Ansys; root cause analysis; continuous product improvement; developing field test plans; tolerance stackup analysis.
In lieu of master's degree, will accept bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field, and 6 years of post-bachelor's, progressive experience which must have included the skills listed above.
