System One is seeking a highly motivated Principal Engineer to join the Risk-Informed Design and Licensing (RIDL) team, focused on advanced nuclear reactor projects. This is a 12-month, onsite contract position in Bellevue, WA.
In this role, you will contribute to the implementation of the NEI 18-04 methodology for developing the design and licensing basis for non-light water reactors (non-LWR). Reporting to the Manager of Risk-Informed Design and Licensing, you will provide technical leadership, oversight, and coordination to ensure the successful and safe deployment of advanced nuclear technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Manager of Risk-Informed Design and Licensing to provide technical expertise in the application of the NEI 18-04 methodology for non-LWR design and licensing.
- Conduct detailed technical analyses and evaluations to support NEI 18-04 goals.
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and approving licensing basis documents to ensure compliance with NEI 18-04 guidelines and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to integrate risk-informed analyses into project design and licensing documentation.
- Support the Manager as a technical liaison with regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders, providing expert input during reviews, audits, and compliance assessments.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation outlining NEI 18-04 methodologies, analysis results, and project compliance.
- Stay up-to-date with regulatory changes and industry trends related to NEI 18-04, identifying opportunities for process improvements and advancements.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to deepen team knowledge of NEI 18-04 and risk assessment techniques.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with 15 years of experience; or a Master’s degree with 8 years of experience; or a PhD with 5 years of experience in risk analysis, licensing, and regulatory compliance.
- Expertise in conducting technical analyses, including risk assessments, probabilistic risk assessments (PRA), and safety analyses.
- Strong understanding of nuclear safety and licensing standards (e.g., NRC regulations, ASME codes, NQA-1).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical information clearly.
- Proven experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, managing multiple projects, and prioritizing tasks effectively.
