We are recruiting a Principal engineer who will develop power electronics systems for a wide variety of applications from clean sheet through to hardware. This will involve developing requirements, circuit design, component selection and managing the implementation of prototype hardware for traction inverters and other associated systems. Development of the functionality and performance of bespoke designs and new technology will be required in the virtual, HiL and hardware testing environments in our client's well-equipped facility. The role involves operating in a dynamic project environment, including technical, commercial and customer management.
REQUIREMENTS
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

The role involves operating in a dynamic project environment, including technical, commercial and customer management.
REQUIREMENTS
- Extensive experience in the development of power electronics, ideally power inverters or switch mode power supplies (experience in OBC and DC/DC also valuable)
- Experience in the design of digital and mixed-signal control and interface circuits.
- Familiar with digital motor control schemes for a variety of motor technologies (IPM, SPM, ASM, SR etc) - FOC, field weakened operation, overmodulation, harmonic current injection for NVH, fault and protection schemes etc.
- Experience in the optimization of power electronic attributes such as: EMI/EMC, thermal, NVH, efficiency, etc.
- The ability to plan and lead multi-person development projects and develop technical relationships with customers.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Expertise in the development of systems in the simulation environment, including the use of state-of-the-art engineering tools and HiL systems.
- A track record in the development of power electronics hardware in a lab, rig and vehicle environment for demanding applications
- The ability to manage PCB layout, mechanical system design and the manufacture and assembly of power electronics components systems.
- Experience in the simulation and design of fluid systems, thermal simulation and management in power electronics systems.
- Training in the safe use of high-power, high-voltage development and test equipment such as high-power battery emulators, PSUs, power analyzers, loads, motor test dynos, etc. within a dedicated high-voltage development lab and EDU test facility, up to 1MW and 800 Vdc
