Overview:
We are seeking a seasoned and innovativePrincipal Engineer, Additive Post-Processing to lead the development and optimization of advanced post-processing solutions for additive manufactured (AM) components. This role is pivotal in ensuring the quality, functionality, cost, and performance of parts through efficient and reliable post-processing techniques. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with leadership skills to drive projects, mentor teams, and contribute to the business's success in the additive manufacturing domain. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and optimize post-processing workflows for additive manufactured parts, including:
- Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) methods such as CT (Computed Tomography) and FPI (Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection).
- Machining processes tailored for additive geometries and materials.
- Functional testing including flow, pressure, and leak testing to ensure part reliability and performance.
- Surface finishing techniques to meet dimensional, aesthetic, and functional specifications.
- Cleaning processes to ensure removal of powders, contaminants, and other residues.
- Metrology strategies for accurate measurement and quality assurance.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure seamless integration of post-processing into production workflows.
- Establish and maintain technical standards, best practices, and process documentation for post-processing.
- Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective actions to resolve process-related issues.
- Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and innovations in additive manufacturing and post-processing.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
- Manage and prioritize multiple projects to meet deadlines and organizational goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Minimum15 years of engineering experience, including5+ years in additive manufacturing and post-processing.
- Proven expertise in post-processing methods such as NDE, machining, surface finishing, and cleaning, particularly for additive manufactured components.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing standards, quality systems, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- Experience with high-precision measurement and inspection tools.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and resolve complex engineering challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in a relevant engineering field.
- Experience with metallic and polymer additive manufacturing processes (e.g., DMLS, SLS, FDM, EBM).
- Experience in jet engine component design or manufacturing
- Familiarity with advanced metrology techniques, including CMM, 3D scanning, and in-situ monitoring.
- Certifications in Lean Six Sigma, project management, or quality systems.
- Expertise in developing and implementing standard operating procedures for post-processing.
