Principal Data Engineer

Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Data Architecture & Strategy: Work across AHP business units to gather requirements then design and implement scalable and efficient data architecture and pipelines to support data analytics and machine learning workloads across projects.
- Data Integration: Oversee the ingestion, transformation, and integration of data from various sources, including APIs, databases, and third-party providers.
- Optimization: Optimize existing data pipelines and systems for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency, leveraging cloud-based infrastructure.
- Data Quality & Governance: Ensure data quality, security, and governance standards are maintained, implementing robust data validation and monitoring processes.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including data science, product, and engineering to understand data needs and deliver solutions that drive value.
- Research & Innovation: Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in data engineering and provide recommendations to improve data processes and architecture.
- Assist the AHP Security resources in the implementation of HIPAA, FISMA and StateRAMP controls
Preferred Skills / Prerequisites
- Expertise of AWS cloud architectures, networking, system administration, architectures and security elements, virtualization technologies, encryption, and servers
- Experience leveraging RedShfit, Databricks, Snowflake, or equivalent cloud data platforms
- Possess at least one AWS Certification (Solution Architect, Data Engineer, SysOps or Developer)
- Be able to identify, understand, articulate, and manage technology decisions across technical disciplines - Be able to prioritize/ handle multiple tasks and projects effectively.
- Expertise in SQL and NoSQL databases, data warehousing, and ETL processes.
- Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker.
- Familiarity with regulatory and legal requirements (i.e., FISMA, SOX, HIPAA requirements)
- Work with public sector or security sensitive clients a plus
- Version control repositories like Bitbucket
- Task management in software development tools like Jira and Confluence
- Strong communication skills, particularly in translating perceived needs into technical requirements
- Self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
Experience/Education
- BA/BS with (10+) years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience
Salary Range: $150,000 - $200,000

The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the AHP salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be high or low in the range based on a range of factors including but not limited to location, experience, and education. The range listed is just one component of AHP’s total compensation package for employees.
