Principal Application Engineer - Tapes & Labels - Salve.Inno Consulting

Overview

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Principal Application Engineer to join a Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (PSA) business. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering customer value through on-site product demonstrations, troubleshooting, and application-based technical support. As the technical liaison between our customers and internal teams, you will provide expert guidance, lead projects, and offer industry-specific insights to drive customer satisfaction and business growth.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead product and technology demonstrations, troubleshooting, and customer training on-site to ensure optimal product application and performance.
• Provide responsive technical support for assigned regional customers, including product recommendations, troubleshooting, and complaint resolution.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product development, manufacturing, supply chain, and marketing teams to ensure technical solutions meet customer needs.
• Manage and execute customer-facing projects, maintaining clear and consistent communication of progress, results, and technical recommendations.
• Plan and coordinate laboratory requests, ensuring detailed reports summarizing findings and actionable recommendations.
• Drive the advancement of new PSA technology platforms, leveraging industry expertise and customer insights to promote innovation.
• Actively participate in industry associations and professional societies to stay updated on market trends, opportunities, and innovations.
• Travel approximately 40-50% of the time, primarily within the U.S., with occasional trips to Mexico and Canada.

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
• 10-15+ years of experience in Technical Service, Engineering, or Development, with a focus on the Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (PSA) industry.
• Hands-on expertise with coating and/or converting processes, such as hot melt, UV curable, solvent-based, or water-based adhesives and coatings.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, particularly with complex technical challenges.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with customers and internal teams.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams, including senior management and operational staff.
• Proven project management capabilities, with a track record of successful project execution and delivery.

Preferred Attributes

• Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with application equipment used in PSA processes.
• Experience with converting operations, such as slitting.
• Demonstrated ability to influence and drive innovation within the industry.
