Job Description
A Physician employed by ASU Health Services (ASUHS) is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of university students, faculty and staff in an ambulatory care facility. Specific responsibilities include the practice of medicine in an outpatient setting, providing consultation/supervision of other healthcare professionals, teaching of undergraduate and graduate students and post-graduate resident physicians, and involvement with educational activities within the university. The position requires involvement with health promotion, wellness concepts and preventive health care. Special responsibilities might include provision of medical care to the disabled, providing and/or supervising women's health care or providing other specialty services.

Essential Duties
Provides professional medical and minor surgical services.
Takes health histories and performs physical examinations; interprets x-ray and laboratory data
Prescribes medications, diets, rehabilitation programs and other treatments as appropriate.
Refers patients to appropriate consultation resource as required.
Assists in health education programs.
Utilizes electronic health records for recording of patient encounters, treatments, and billing.
Attends scheduled staff meetings as required by ASUHS bylaws.
Participates in ASUHS Staff committees as requested by the Section Chief, Chief of Clinical Services or Director.
Participates in after hours phone response system, as requested by the Chief of Clinical Services or the Director.
Maintains continuity of care for patients to include coordination of care pre- and post-hospitalization and pre- and post-consultant referral.
Meets or exceeds continuing medical education requirements of the Arizona Board of Medicine and participate in ASUHS educational programs as required by the ASUHS professional bylaws.
Completes reports for communicable disease as required by the state or county health department regulations.
Available for emergency response as part of the University Disaster Plan.
Participates in afterhours/weekend clinics as requested by the Section Chief, the Chief of Clinical Services or the Director.
Participates in the teaching of students and post-graduate residents/fellows as requested by the Section Chief, Chief of Clinical Services or Director.
Maintains current basic life support CPR (BLS) certification or advanced life support (ALS) as directed by either the Chief of Clinical Services or the Director.

Required Minimum Qualifications
Medical degree from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic school. Licensure to practice medicine in the State of Arizona. Completion of residency training in an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accredited residency training program or equivalent. Certified by an American Board of Medical Specialists board within 12 months of beginning employment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualificiations
Knowledge and skill in the practice of medicine.
Experience with health care of the late adolescent and young adult population.
Experience and interest in health promotion and preventive health care.
Ability to utilize electronic health records
Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy and security rules.
Experience or training with medical care of the disabled.
Working Environment
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions
Periodic travel involving local, regional, and national destinations requiring operation of a motorized vehicle which may also involve non-standard work hours.
Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone, and associated computer/technology peripherals.
This position receives administrative/managerial review of objectives
This position provides supervision of assigned health care professionals for completion of patient health care related tasks as needed.
