The Press Operator reports directly to the Plant Superintendent. What you will be doing: Responsible for meeting and exceeding machine production goals. Assumes full responsibility for the complete operation and production of the press, including the quality of all printed material. Responsible for the direction and performance of the press assistant, including the continuous training of the assistant in his/her duties which includes being able to run the press in absence of the Operator with minimal assistance. Assumes responsibility for print job set-up including plates: sleeves, ink match, make ready, anilox rollers, and verifying film. Assumes responsibility for the print quality including: print position, correct copy, UPC codes, register, and impressions. Places roll tickets and weights on each roll. Maintains accurate records will be maintained in Shop Floor computer. Returns all inks, plates/sleeves, film, etc. to the proper locations with proper identification upon completion of an order. Reports damaged or excessively worn plates to the Shift Leader for replacement. Demonstrate understanding of setup and use of web monitoring system Demonstrate complete understanding of the sequence of the make-ready process Understand tension controls and how they apply to different substrates Learn how to set proper impression on plate and anilox and be able to demonstrate. Demonstrates the ability to draw off all bag dimensions for finished / converted bags. Demonstrate ability to properly adjust dot gains and densities based on readings to match proof Complete Plate mounting basic training to understand different mounting tapes and plate mounting procedures and how they relate to printing Work with maintenance to understand operator based maintenance for the machines and how to perform the requirements Handle Hazardous Waste using the procedures you have been trained on. Performs other duties as directed or requested by Shift Leader or Production Manager. We'd love to hear from you if: previous printing press experience is a requirement: Flexographic printing – printing film and/or paper Multi-colored press operator Web fed printing machine operator Requires a thorough knowledge of company printing procedures and quality standards. Technical knowledge of inks, color, and film properties would be beneficial. Requires the ability to read and interpret work orders, art, and spec sheets. Requires an operating knowledge of his/her particular machine capabilities. Must have successfully fulfill requirement for Press assistant levels I and II Technical training and/or equivalent apprenticeship of up to three years as an operator are required to become proficient in most aspects of the job. Requires a thorough knowledge of company printing procedures and quality standards. Technical knowledge of inks, color, and film properties would be beneficial. Requires the ability to read and interpret work orders, art, and spec sheets. Requires an operating knowledge of his/her particular machine capabilities. Must have successfully fulfill requirement for Press assistant levels I and II Technical training and/or equivalent apprenticeship of up to three years as an operator are required to become proficient in most aspects of the job.
