South Shore Stars is a not-for-profit organization providing the highest quality early education and youth development programs for the communities south of Boston. Founded in 1970, we annually serve over 1,200 children and youth age newborn through 18 years in a family child care system, preschool centers, school age centers, middle school programs, a high school program, and summer camp. This is a part-time afternoon position with the hours of 12:30-6:00pm.
General Description
Teachers, as members of a classroom teaching team, under the supervision of a Lead Teacher, plan for an assigned small group and the individual children comprising that small group. The Teacher is responsible for all classroom functioning in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
Programmatic Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining a stimulating and nurturing classroom environment.
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate classroom activities and teaching strategies.
- Develop weekly plans for assigned small group.
- Complete all required parent reports for children in assigned small group.
- Help to organize and maintain classroom order, equipment, and materials
- Participate in child assessment and utilize information to develop individual plans for children in assigned small group.

- Help complete goals of annual classroom Action Plan.
- Actively participate in Team, curriculum and other classroom meetings.
- Support the implementation of licensing and accreditation requirements.
- Follow all agency policies and procedures and document as required.
- Daily communication with Lead Teacher regarding activities, incidents and concerns.
- Complete annual professional development plan.
- Attend all required meetings and trainings.
- All other duties assigned by Lead Teacher or Center Director.
Family Communication Responsibilities
- Maintain open and supportive communication with families.
- Hold the required number of family conferences for children in assigned small group.
- Participate in family events at the Center.
- Support all family involvement activities.
Qualifications
- AA in Early Childhood Education or AA/BA out of field with 18 ECE credits.
- One year experience teaching young children.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully complete all program responsibilities.
- Demonstrated classroom management skills.
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and demonstrated commitment to DAP.
- Knowledge of MA Curriculum Frameworks.
- Demonstrated knowledge of child assessment and ability to use data to develop/implement individual plans.
- Warm and nurturing personality.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
- Commitment to agency's mission of supporting low-income families and at-risk children.
Reports to: Lead Teacher
Salary range is $22.87-26.88 per hour.
* All South Shore Stars employees should be able to lift at least 40 lbs and work in a non-sedentary environment.
