Title: Preschool Teacher
Job Type: Full-time, 7:30-4:30 p.m. (subject to change based on center and classroom needs)
Compensation: $25/hour + Comprehensive Benefits (see below for benefits details)
LOCATION: Union Station, Los Angeles, CA
PRIMARY DUTIES: Assist in planning, implementing and facilitating a developmentally appropriate, full-inclusion program for young children.
Other Duties Assigned:
- Assist to ensure the best practice in anti-bias curriculum, respect the home culture in all communication, functions, and curriculum presentations.
- Assist in the daily operation of the classroom including setting up activities, transitions and clean up.
- Maintain classroom order based on Pathways discipline philosophy by providing positive discipline approaches, including social problem-solving techniques. Offer an engaging and varied play environment.
- Maintain an orderly, safe, and attractive learning environment for children, both in and outdoors.
- Sit with children and engage or coach them in activities.
- Maintain an effective working relationship with other staff. Responsible for shared - decision making about site operations and total program plan.
- Assume leadership role in absence of teacher.
- In conjunction with the site supervisor follow established procedures for reporting child abuse and emergencies.
- Base interactions with children during both play and daily routines on the child's established goals as described by the family and assessments while maintaining sensitivity to the child's immediate interests.
- Attend scheduled staff and parent meetings as assigned.
- Cooperate with co-workers so that naptime and mealtime are relaxed and meet the curriculum.
- Attend appropriate workshops and local conferences for professional development.
- Assist teachers with compliance of codes, funding terms and conditions, regulations of all state and local governing agencies: Department of Developmental Services, State Childcare Licensing, California Department of Education, Regional Centers, fire and health departments, and Child and Adult Care Food Program.
- Support Teachers with classroom maintenance, bulletin boards, rotating toys, labeling classroom, sanitizing toys, setting indoor and outdoor areas, diapering etc.
REQUIREMENTS:
Associate degree or higher in Early Care and Education (ECE), Child Development (CD), or related field or 24 units in ECE/CD or related field, including core courses, plus 16 general education units.
Must have or be eligible to obtain a Teacher Permit according to the CA Child Development Permit Matrix.
At least one year experience working with children ages 0-5 in an early childhood classroom environment including curriculum implementation, parent training, support, and communication.
Knowledge of child development theory and experience with developmentally appropriate practices.
Experience in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum for young children that supports overall growth. Experience with children identified as having special needs.
Experience conducting DRDP-r and/or other developmental assessments.
Must be able to regularly talk or hear. Will occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Additional Requirements:
Fingerprint clearance/Department of Justice ID#, current health report including negative TB test, proof of required immunizations per Community Care Licensing for MMR, DTAP, Influenza (or waiver). These items are required before classroom assignment.
