Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Transportation Responsibilities:
Transport children to and from the center and other Head Start related activities in compliance with Office of Head Start performance standards, AZ Bureau of Child Care Licensure transportation regulations, and the agency’s child transportation procedures (including but not limited to trip routing, release and acceptance of children, safe riding practices, alternate routes, and pre and post trip inspections).
Complete all of the Transportation Safety training modules as scheduled to meet requirements for pre-service and in-service classroom and behind-the-wheel training.
Complete pre/post trip inspections for each transportation and walk through the bus visually checking all seats at end of each trip to ensure that no children remain on the bus.
Work with teaching staff to update and keep an accurate bus list. Maintain consistent arrival and departure times for daily routes.
Support bus monitors as necessary to ensure safe transportation. Report safety concerns to bus monitor and supervisor.
Complete bus safety inspections: maintain the bus in a clean and safe condition (return any papers, sweaters, etc. left at the end of daily routes to teacher).
Notify supervisor of bus repair and maintenance needs including contacting the Work Request System to report service needs at pre-planned intervals and for any breakdowns or un-planned repairs. Deliver and pick up bus for service.
Follow Fleet Fueling procedures and process for assigned bus including entry of accurate information into “pay at the pump” system.
Comply with emergency communication system policies and procedures including carrying assigned cell phone on bus during transportation of children.
Ensure current vehicle registration and certificate of liability are located within the bus at all times.
Maintain a complete 1staid kit with required items and conduct inventory of items as required.
Custodial Responsibilities:
Use cleaning checklists to clean, sanitize, and prepare indoor and outdoor spaces for children’s use. Remove dirt or grime, odors, insects, vermin, clutter, litter, dangerous objects, animal feces, debris, and weeds. Conduct minor landscape maintenance to remove weeds, trim trees, or water plants.
Identify and notify supervisor of repair or maintenance needs and/or safety hazards in indoor or outdoor spaces including notification to the Work Request System.
Move and/or store classroom furniture and materials when required by center needs. Assist teaching team with classroom set up at start up.
Organize custodial storage areas to ensure safety and easy access to supplies and equipment by adults. Maintain appropriate levels of custodial supplies to prevent shortage of necessary items. Complete supply requests and submit to supervisor for review and forward to procurement. Verify supply deliveries from center run and notify supervisor of discrepancies.
Store cleaning chemicals and hazardous materials (flammable, poisonous, or labeled keep out of reach of children) in a locked area that is inaccessible to children.
Take scheduled playground equipment from storage area to playground before outdoor playtime begins and return to storage after outdoor playtime is complete.
Water sand areas as required to promote sand play.
Water down hot surfaces as temperature dictates (slides, benches, play structure, sand).
Provide fresh drinking water with easy access by children during outdoor playtime.
Use caution tape to designate unsafe areas and block access by children.
Conduct Safety Review Daily to secure facility at the end of the day.
Supervision:
Identify self-growth, development goals, and strategies for achievement with support and input from supervisor.
Commit and participate in consistent and planned meetings with supervisor to further professional growth by seeking feedback, reflecting on and assessing own practice, and taking advantage of opportunities to improve skills and knowledge.
Recordkeeping, Monitoring, and Reporting:
Prepare and submit the bus route list at quarterly intervals to the Physical Resources Manager for review (include pick up and drop off locations, directions, and start and stop times for each location).
Record accurate odometer readings on the Monthly Mileage Log and submit to the Physical Resources Manager per schedule.
File and retain pre and post trip inspections and 1staid kit inventory for 12 months.
Submit fleet Fueling receipts to Fiscal as required.
Leadership, Management, and Teamwork:
Participate in center staff meetings and the planning of center activities. Identify emerging needs, initiate requests for additional assistance, and participate in on-going improvements to program policies and procedures.
Support other staff in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for children and families by adjusting own routines (when appropriate) to accommodate their needs, sharing pertinent information about children and families with appropriate staff, and working cooperatively as part of a program team.
Exhibit an understanding that families are full program partners by responding to children’s and families’ situations with respect and flexibility, providing them with information, and/or securing help from other staff when needed.
Promotes effective relationships within the community by speaking positively about the program and its staff, services, children, and families and by viewing the program as a valuable part of the community.
