Role Description:
As a Prep Cook at Happier Grocery, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing ingredients, maintaining a clean work environment, and supporting the kitchen staff as needed. We value teamwork, flexibility, and a strong commitment to cleanliness.
Location: SoHo, New York
Responsibilities:
- Prepare ingredients for cooking, including washing, peeling, cutting, and measuring.
- Follow recipes and instructions from chefs to ensure consistency and quality in all dishes.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including workstations, equipment, and storage areas.
- Assist with basic cooking tasks, such as blanching, boiling, and sautéing.
- Ensure all food items are stored properly and comply with food safety standards.
- Work collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure efficient workflow and timely meal preparation.
- Flexibly assist in various kitchen duties as needed, including dishwashing and waste management.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations within the kitchen.
Requirements
- Proven 1-2 years experience as a Prep Cook
- Training from a culinary school will be an asset
- High school diploma or equivalent is desirable
- Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage priorities and workflow
- Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure
- Demonstrate a friendly, high-energy personality with a positive and team-oriented approach
- Able to handle multiple tasks and works well in an environment with time constraints
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, such as staying on your feet, climbing stairs, and carrying heavy objects
- Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the work area and property
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
- FULL AVAILABILITY- daytime hours, evening hours, and weekends
