The Food Services Department has an opening for a Prep Cook. At the direction of the Executive Chef, the Prep Cook is responsible for the preparation and production of the daily food service operation in the Stella Young Dining Room and THQ Salvation Army catered events. The Prep Cook position must maintain the highest professional food quality and sanitation standards.
Based in West Nyack, NY this position requires approximately 35 hours of work per week and is onsite.
Responsibilities:
• Attend kitchen’s daily standup meetings and participate in the discussion of the food service operation.
• Responsible for the timely, accurate production of assigned foods, refreshing the food line as needed, setting up and breaking down the hot and cold line.
• Responsible for ensuring product freshness and presentation for the salad bar, grill station, and hot entrée station.
• Assist in the operation of the grill station, hot entrée station, and operation of the cash register during lunch service.
• Always use proper sanitation techniques, while keeping a clean workspace.
• Always use proper food handling and storage techniques.
• Responsible for the set-up and break-down of the three compartmental pot sink and dish machine.
• Responsible for receiving and inspecting the weekly food delivery, to include properly storing food.
• Assist with weekly food inventory.
• Stock communal beverage stations within the building.
• May run errands and deliver food orders to offices.
• Properly clean and storing all food service equipment, and wares.
• Assist in filling out production and temperature logs.
• Ensure that all food is received, stored, and prepared according to dining room standards.
• Attention to detail in food preparation and presentation.
• Adhere to uniform and hygiene standards.
• Remove trash and clears storage bins, sweeping and mopping if needed.
• Cleans tabletops, chairs, and surfaces within the kitchen and dining room area.
• Assist with catered events.
• Maintain a positive attitude and support a team environment.
• Report all damaged or faulty equipment to the Executive Chef.
• Must be able to multi-task and prioritize functions to meet deadlines.
• Must be effective at listening, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests, to report back to the Executive Chef.
• Strive for guest satisfaction and maintain the goal of creating positive guest experiences.
• Must be able to multitask and prioritize functions to meet deadlines.
• Ensure proper equipment operation/maintenance and ensure proper safety and sanitation in the kitchen as per New York State and Rockland County Laws.
• Timing and length of shifts may vary depending on the business needs. Some evening and/or weekend work may be required on occasions.
• All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
- 1-3 years of related experience.
• ServSafe Food Handler Certification
• Skill or experience performing culinary knife techniques.
• Experience or knowledge of food ingredients, preparation and cooking techniques, and attractive food presentation.
• Experience preparing, serving, and cooking food safely and hygienically.
