Since 1952, Light of Life Rescue Mission has been a safe refuge for homeless and hurting people in the Pittsburgh area. We are seeking a full-time Cook to be a part of the Mission's exciting growth as we relocate and offer food services at multiple sites. The successful candidate will be part of a team working in the Mission's new $8 million facility. As well as preparing food, this individual plays a vital role working alongside residential guests, overseeing and teaching them basic food service and kitchen operations.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Cooking and warming meals according to meal plan
- Maintaining kitchens at multiple sites per direction of supervisor
- Functioning as a caterer, delivering food
- Ability to adapt and thrive during peak times of meal prep and service
- Working alongside residential guests assigned to Meal Ministry

- Model personal responsibility, accountability, timely reporting and a self-evaluative lifestyle.
Requirements/Certifications
- ServSafe certificate a plus (will be required to pass test in the future)
- Valid PA Driver's License with clean driving record preferred, but not necessary
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs, occasionally
- Organization and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal skills; compassionate and patient; able to create a safe and comfortable environment.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous cooking experience
- Additional coursework in food service or culinary arts preferred
- Previous experience with commercial kitchen equipment helpful
- An understanding of addiction issues and homelessness a plus
