SUMMARY OF THE JOB
Deaconess Pharmacy is working to have 1-4Pharmacy Interns from every year of pharmacy school (Pre-Pharmacy through P4 Year). We need to fill 1position with a student who is currently Pre-Pharmacy Year 1 duringthe 2023-2024school year. All other positions are currently filled. We are asking that the Intern be willing to make at least a 2-year commitment to the Deaconess Internship program. Students are required to get licensure in Indiana and Kentucky.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Dutiesinclude the following, other duties may be assigned:
- PROVIDES DRUG DISTRIBUTION
- Usesdrug orders/prescriptions/Epic System labels. Collects and labels medications to be checked by Pharmacist for inpatient and outpatient distribution. Processes floor stock requisitions. Delivers floorstock and patient medications by hand, by tube or by daily cart exchange. Places medication in stock and returns discontinued medications to stock if appropriate. Replenishes emergency drug boxes and Omnicell machines.
- COMPOUNDS INTRAVENOUS SOLUTIONS
- Compounds sterile intravenous solutions to be checked by Pharmacist prior to distribution. These solutions include large volume parenterals, piggybacks, parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy and cardioplegia solutions prepared aseptically in a laminar flow hood.
- PACKAGES MEDICATIONS IN UNIT DOSE PACKAGING
- Packages individual doses of liquid and solid medications using variety of equipment and the unit dose packaging machine.
- OPERATES DEPARTMENTAL EQUIPMENT
- Operates a variety of equipment in the department including but not limited to the Epic System, Printers, Medication Transfer Carts, Unit Dose Packaging Machine, Omnicell machines, Pharmacy Carousel, and Baxa Repeater Pump.
- MAINTAINS DEPARTMENTAL SYSTEMS AND RECORDS
- Maintains appropriate inventory levels within established departmental guidelines. Maintains controlled substance system in accordance with policy and procedure.
- COMPLETE ADMISSION MEDICATION HISTORY
- Complete the patient's home medication list in Epic.
- COMPLIES WITH STANDARDS OF EMPLOYEE CONDUCT
- All employees must comply with standards of employee conduct.
JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

- Education and Experience
- Actively enrolled ina B.S. or Doctor of Pharmacy program atan accredited School of Pharmacy.
- Prior pharmacy experience preferred, but not required.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Licensure in Indiana and Kentucky as a Pharmacist Intern, pharmacy technician in training, or pharmacy technician.
- Language Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as physician orders, safety rules, policies and procedures operating and maintenance instructions. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on -one and in small groups to customers and other employees of the organization.
- Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, divide and multiply using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to interpret graphs.
- Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Computer Skills
- Computer/database skills required. This job requires computer and systems competency in the following areas
- Enters data, retrieves data, assembles and organizes data, uses and analyzes data, and integrates diverse sources of data.
- Competency in Excel, Microsoft Windows and other computer databases.
