Overview
The Qi laboratory at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is looking for exceptional Postdoctoral Fellows in cancer biology focusing on chemistry and chemical biology aspects of the research (qi lab website qilab.dana-farber.org). The Qi lab studies gene regulatory pathways using the emerging discipline of chemical biology. Successful candidates will work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists including medicinal chemists, biochemists, computational biologists, and cancer biologists to establish the mechanistic understanding of targeted protein inhibition in cancer. The successful candidate will perform research on developing chemical probes that will help make fundamental insights to cancer biology. We expect that novel therapeutics for human clinical investigation will emerge directly from these efforts through academic/industry collaborations. The postdoctoral fellow will be affiliated with the Department of Cancer Biology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Department of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Broad Institute.
Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.
Responsibilities
We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated and experienced bench-level chemist/chemical biologist to join Qi lab at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The major focus of this position will include developing small molecule inhibitors/degraders and chemical probes for studying the functions of targeted proteins in cancer.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Performing synthesis and development of small molecule inhibitors under structure guidance.
- Experience in computational modeling is a plus.
- Performing laboratory experiments and conducting data analysis.
- Collaborating with team members and collaborators to understand the target inhibition in different cancers.
- Designing experiments and executing protocols.
- Maintaining accurate records, writing reports, and preparing/giving presentations.
- Chemical biology/Biology background is preferred but not required.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- PhD in chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical biology or equivalent
- A strong understanding in biochemistry, chromatin biology, cancer biology is preferred, but not required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- The ability to perform both self-directed and guided research is required.
- Must demonstrate outstanding ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists.
At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we work every day to create an innovative, caring, and inclusive environment where every patient, family, and staff member feels they belong. As relentless as we are in our mission to reduce the burden of cancer for all, we are equally committed to diversifying our faculty and staff. Cancer knows no boundaries and when it comes to hiring the most dedicated and diverse professionals, neither do we. If working in this kind of organization inspires you, we encourage you to apply.
