About the Job
The Metis Foundation is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work at Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) Fort Sam Houston, on the novel therapeutics that target innate immune responses for treating multiple organ failure in severe polytrauma. The prospective candidate is expected to perform animal surgical procedures and laboratory analysis.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
The research fellow will assist with the operations of the study, and the PI will help with the planning and execution of the project. Specifically, he/she will:
- Performing experimental studies, data collection, and analysis
- Comparing results, evaluating research, and modeling techniques
- Maintaining accurate and organized records of research activities and results
- Preparing and drafting the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocols, meeting abstracts, peer-reviewed manuscripts, scientific and other related reports
- Participating in the preparation and writing of grant applications, and developing of new research projects/directions
- Training of research staff and technicians within the lab
- Maintain communications with the PI and offer suggestions for improvement.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Have extensive experience (>3 years) in small animal research, particular focus on trauma, immunology, inflammation, biology, and pharmacology
- Experience of animal handling, surgical experience (e.g. cannulation, tunnel, etc.), drug injection/administration, and physiological monitoring for small animals (e.g. mouse and rat) is highly preferred
- Familiar with various biology software and statistical analyses, including GraphPad, EndNote, etc.
- Ability to perform data analysis and interpretation, and independent ability to design and execute experiments
Minimum Education/Training Requirements:
Recently graduated and obtained a degree of PhD, DVM, MD or equivalent in the field of biology, microbiology, cellular biology, immunology, chemistry, bioinformatics, biomedical engineers or related field.
Minimum Experience: Prior surgical skills/experience in animal models or humans required.
Compensation: Annual base salary range$60,000.00 - $65,000.00
Work Environment:
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
- Work may involve exposure to unusual environmental elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises
