About the Job
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Post Wire Cabling Technician to be an important part of our team. The Post Wire Cabling Technician will be responsible for performing fiber cable installation, construction, and repair across indoor and outdoor settings. Responsibilities include terminating fiber optic cables to expand or replace telecommunications networks while adhering to set standards, excelling in pinpointing and rectifying cable faults to uphold network integrity without causing signal disruptions and with minimized negative impact to community aesthetics. This role involves troubleshooting and maintenance to resolve signal issues. Proficient in accessing manholes, hand holes, and employing ladders for diverse installation and construction tasks. This opportunity sits within Cityside Fiber’s OSP Engineering & Construction Department. You will operate in a fast-moving and sometimes ambiguous environment and excel in hitting the Company’s objectives. To be successful you will have superior communication and organizational skills.
Responsibilities
- Understand Cityside Fiber’s core purpose and values and be passionate about what we do.
- Conducts maintenance and repair work on fiber optic lines, including examination, testing for damage, and troubleshooting faults
- Reads and interprets fiber splicing diagrams, prints, specifications, and work scopes
- Use industry related hand tools and power tools, under supervision.
- Dress and route Fiber optic cables and low voltage data cabling into data closets, lock boxes and work areas.
- Fiber optic and low voltage data installation for existing and new construction apartment complexes.
- Install a structured cabling system including pathways, spaces, horizontal cabling, backbone fiber optic, and testing. This includes understanding applicable codes, standards, and industry-best practices.
- Installs and mounts FTPs (fiber termination points) and splicing cabinets
- Installs and connects wires and cables to designated terminals, ensuring proper connectivity within the network
- Attaches or detaches hardware components to diverse structures as required for network installation and maintenance
- Observes hazards and reports any concerns or accidents to a supervisor or safety professional; participates in the investigation process as needed
- Understands, completes, and signs off all pre-job safety planning tools at the start and end of the shift; completes all required safety-related paperwork; ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards and state and local regulations
- Understands and responds appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (e.g., back-up alarms, smell of smoke, fumes, odors, different colored warning tags, warning sirens)
- Must be able and willing to climb ladders up to 28 ft.
- Must be able and willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Maintain vehicle in a clean and professional manner.
- Dress in approved Cityside Fiber clothing and arrive at work in a neat and professional manner.
- Ensure reasonably minimal disruption to community, providing an excellent customer service experience to the general public.
- Understanding of standards and processes established prior to starting the project. Ensure work performed complies with aesthetic and quality standards required by the authorizing party.
- Work in and contribute to an atmosphere of trust and integrity with fellow employees to ensure the overall success of Cityside Fiber.
Qualifications
- High energy individual who is willing to be an integral part of a high growth service provider who puts people first, dares to be different and has fun disrupting an industry.
- High School Degree or GED.
- 2+ years of experience in a telecom or structured cabling field
- Ability to lift 50-80 pounds throughout the day.
- Ability to enter and work in confined spaces while bending, twisting, and reaching
- Ability to accurately measure distances using tapes or other measuring devices.
- Ability to differentiate between an array of sizes and colors of wiring
- Ability to construct small networks for MDU, and public spaces using off the shelf solutions to meet demand.
- Experience communicating to and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Proven history of excellent customer service and ability to build relationships.
- Excellent organizational skills- Ability to multi-task and be highly responsive to internal and external clients.
- Demonstrated intense customer focus.
- Demonstrated highest level of integrity, intellectual honesty and strong work ethic.
- Takes initiative. Plans efficiently while avoiding analysis paralysis.
- Proven history of problem solving and collaboration.
- Consistent effort, intense commitment, and willingness to go above and beyond when needed.
- Understanding of telecommunication infrastructure and networking concepts.
- Valid state driver’s license, good driving record, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance.
Location
Our Headquarters and field offices are located in Irvine. Will be required to travel to project/customer sites to fulfill job responsibilities.
Compensation
Starting at $25.00 per hour (actual starting rate may vary based on candidate’s qualifications, skills and years of experience).
