Job Description:
With minimal supervision and within established procedures, the Polymer Synthesis Laboratory Technician will conduct routine as well as complex research laboratory activities in support of the Global Innovation Center. The incumbent will provide support to the Chemists / Engineers in the research and development process. Research may include assistance with information/data management activities and analysis of results.

Assist in the design of polymer synthesis experiments, conduct those experiments independently and collect, summarize and present the resulting data.

Troubleshoot problems as they arise in the laboratory, collaborate with research investigators when erroneous or unexpected results occur.

Identify and suggest improvements in methods.

Document findings and communicate results.

Make suggestions on path forward and contribute to work plans and manage daily workflow.

Inspect and perform routine maintenance on equipment used to conduct experiments at the designated work location.

Maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments at work location.

Maintain a safe working environment and participate in department and site safety practices

Interpret and communicate of test results using computer-based systems.
Document experimental test results using computer programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. -
Safely handle, categorize, and dispose of chemicals on a routine basis.
Handle multiple tasks under strict time constraints.
Required:

Bachelor's degree in a chemistry-related field, or an Associate's degree/Technical certification in a chemistry-related field with two years of industry experience.

Relevant job experience may be considered as an equivalent for a degree.

Good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to work well in both self-managed and team environment.

Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting established deadlines.

Comfortable working with hazardous materials.

Strong interest in hands-on work to ensure a good understanding of the products.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Possess strong computer and analytical skills.

Effective problem solving and decision-making skills.

Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred:
-
BS/BA (4-year degree) in a science related field with experience in the synthesis of polymers or organic compounds in an industrial laboratory environment.
