THE WYOMISSING POLICE DEPARTMENT IS HIRING FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITION:
POLICE OFFICER
The Wyomissing Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. Applications are available at the Borough Hall/Police Department, 22 Reading Boulevard, Wyomissing, or at berks.crimewatchpa.com/wyomissingpd. THERE IS NO APPLICATION FEE FOR TESTING FOR THIS POSITION. All applications must be submitted no later than Friday, February 21, 2025, at 3 PM to be considered for further processing. Completed applications must be submitted at the Borough Hall, at the Police Department, or emailed to Chief John Phillips at jphillips@wyopd.org
Applicants must be a United States citizen, have reached their 21st birthday, be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer, be able to possess a valid PA driver’s license, and have a high school diploma or GED. Additional final points may be awarded for proof of the following: (To receive these points the applicant must pass the written/physical/oral examination)
• Release from active service duty under honorable
conditions, or honorable discharge from active service
duty, as a “soldier”, as defined in 51 Pa. C.S.A. Section 7101,
in the armed forces of the United States, or in any women’s
organization officially connected therewith, during any war
or armed conflict in which the United States engaged –
10 pts.
• Up to 60 college credits – 3 pts.
• Up to 90 college credits – 5 pts.
• Up to 120 college credits – 7 pts.
• More than 120 college credits – 10 pts.
Applicants must successfully complete a written, oral and physical performance examinations, psychological screening, drug & alcohol testing, polygraph examination, physical, a thorough background investigation, and if not Act 120 certified the Nelson-Denny reading test.
Any applicant claiming Veteran’s Preference and/or college credits, is responsible for providing any and all relevant documents, which shall, at a minimum, include a form DD-214, college transcripts, no later than two (2) business days immediately prior to the date of the written examination.
The starting base salary for a probationary police officer in 2025 is $71,657.04. If the applicant has three (3) or more continuous years of full-time police experience in PA., the base salary for a probationary police officer in 2025 is $96,227.04 per year.
The written test shall be administered on Sunday March 2, 2025, at 10 AM at the Wyomissing Area High School, 630 Evans Avenue, Wyomissing. Doors will open at 9:30 AM, no one will be allowed to enter after 10 AM (Applicants must bring valid ID for entry to the written test). Candidates achieving a written score of 70% or better will advance to the physical performance test being held at 1 PM on March 2, 2025.
