Position Overview:
As the Point of Care Testing (POCT) Laboratory Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the POCT program at University Hospital. This includes ensuring accurate and efficient testing, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the training and development of POCT staff. Your leadership will be key in providing high-quality, timely diagnostic information that supports clinical decision-making and optimal patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Point of Care Testing (POCT) program, ensuring all processes meet regulatory standards, quality controls, and safety protocols.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., CLIA, CAP).
- Supervise and train POCT staff, ensuring they have the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to perform testing and provide excellent service.
- Manage inventory and ordering of POCT supplies and equipment, ensuring that the department runs smoothly and without interruption.
- Collaborate with clinical staff and other departments to coordinate and optimize POCT workflow, ensuring tests are performed and results are delivered in a timely manner.
- Lead quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives to maintain high standards in POCT performance and patient care.
- Review and interpret POCT results, troubleshooting any issues related to testing accuracy or procedures.
- Participate in the evaluation and selection of new POCT technologies and ensure proper integration into clinical workflows.
- Prepare and manage the POCT department's budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and efficient use of resources.
- Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and technological advancements in POCT.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biological, laboratory, chemistry, or physical science from an accredited institution.
- MLS Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the American Medical Technologists (AMT) is required.
- 5 years of clinical laboratory experience, with a strong background in Point of Care Testing.
- At least 1 year of first-line laboratory supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of Point of Care Testing instruments, testing procedures, and quality control processes.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, motivate, and train staff effectively.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with clinical teams and leadership.
- Ability to make critical decisions under pressure, ensuring that testing is performed accurately and efficiently.
