Job Description:
The Plumbing Inspector is responsible for inspecting plumbing installations, systems, and equipment to ensure compliance with local, state, and national plumbing codes and regulations. This position involves conducting field inspections, reviewing plans and specifications, providing guidance to contractors and homeowners, and issuing permits and approvals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct Inspections: Perform inspections of plumbing installations in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings at various stages of construction or renovation to ensure compliance with plumbing codes and standards.
- Review Plans and Specifications: Review plumbing plans, drawings, and specifications submitted for permit approval to ensure they meet regulatory requirements and standards.
- Provide Guidance: Offer guidance and assistance to contractors, plumbers, homeowners, and other stakeholders regarding code requirements, permit procedures, and compliance issues.
- Document Inspections: Document inspection findings, observations, and violations accurately and thoroughly. Prepare written reports and maintain records of inspections, permits, and compliance activities.
- Investigate Complaints: Respond to complaints and reports of plumbing code violations. Investigate alleged violations, conduct site inspections, and take appropriate enforcement actions as necessary.
- Collaborate with Other Departments: Coordinate with other departments, such as building and zoning departments, to ensure compliance with overall construction and development regulations.
- Stay Updated: Keep abreast of changes in plumbing codes, regulations, and industry standards. Attend training sessions, workshops, and seminars to maintain knowledge and skills relevant to the position.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders.
- Enforcement: Enforce plumbing codes and regulations by issuing citations, stop-work orders, and other enforcement actions when necessary to ensure public safety and compliance with standards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (additional education or training in plumbing, construction, or related field preferred).
- Relevant professional certifications or licenses (e.g., Plumbing Inspector Certification, Journeyman Plumber License).
- Knowledge of local, state, and national plumbing codes, regulations, and standards.
- Experience in plumbing installation, maintenance, or inspection.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proficiency in using computer software and mobile devices for documentation and reporting.
- Travel: Candidates own vehicle. Most of the field work is done by the owner but they will reimburse for travel (not TO the client site from home and back but if there is travel in between to other locations .65 per mile is reimbursable). All routes are less than 50 miles. Whenever the company is short on work in Tampa (less than 10% of the time) will request them stay in Melbourne, FL for some work in that location as they just picked up some large clients in this location for the next 2-3 years.
