Job Overview
The Plumbing Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for plumbing projects, ensuring profitability and alignment with client requirements. This role involves analyzing blueprints, specifications, and proposals to determine project scope, costs, and resources. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, industry knowledge, and attention to detail to support successful project bids, with specific experience in 5-over-2 projects or similar multifamily structures.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Estimation:
- Analyze project documents, including blueprints, specifications, and RFPs, to identify the project scope and requirements.
- Develop detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
- Prepare and submit bid proposals within established deadlines.
- Leverage experience in 5-over-2 construction to create precise estimates for plumbing installations in multifamily buildings.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination:
- Obtain and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors for reliable cost inputs.
- Budgeting and Value Engineering:
- Work with project teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and propose alternative materials or methods.
- Ensure estimates are aligned with project budgets and financial goals.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of all estimates, including assumptions and calculations.
- Generate reports summarizing project costs, risks, and potential profitability.
- Client and Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Communicate with clients to clarify project requirements and address questions about estimates.
- Participate in project meetings to support bid presentations and negotiations.
- Market Analysis:
- Stay updated on market trends, material costs, and industry advancements to refine estimation processes.
- Monitor competitor pricing and adjust strategies as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in plumbing estimation, construction estimation, or a related role.
- Strong understanding of 5-over-2 multifamily construction, plumbing systems, materials, and local building codes.
- Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., ProEst, PlanSwift, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Primarily office-based with occasional visits to job sites for evaluation.
- Must be able to work under tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
