Position Summary:
Vanderbilt University Maintenance and Operations (VUMO) seeks a Plumber Journeyman to perform routine plumbing work and plumbing construction/installation work. This is a full-time position: 40 hours per week. Must be available to work 7:30AM to 4:00PM. Must be available to work additional hours as required including evening hours.
VUMO provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of University Central space and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center.
VUMO’s annual budget exceeds $100 million in operating expenses and includes over 400 employees. VUMO manages major capital project expenditures totaling ~$125 million annually and facility renewal, replacement and large maintenance project expenditures totaling ~$20 million annually.
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
+ Maintain and repair domestic water lines
+ Maintain and repair sanitary sewer system
+ Check and repair all backflow devices
+ Maintain and repair all steam domestic water heaters
+ Maintain and repair all plumbing fixtures
+ Maintain and repair all domestic recirculation pumps
+ Maintain and repair domestic pressure regulating valves
+ Maintain and repair storm sewer system
+ Assist on irrigation problems
+ Assist zone electrician, plumber, and carpenter in performance of their duties
+ Utilize work order system in all aspects, including parts ordering, printing work orders and parts look up
+ Set up and monitor personal work order query
+ Process daily work order time sheet
+ Operate vehicle/golf cart and perform operator level maintenance
+ Other duties related to classification
Supervisory Relationships:
This position does not have supervisory responsibility; this position reports administratively and functionally to the Zone Manager.
Education and Certifications:
+ High School Graduate or GED is required
+ Journeyman Plumbers License is preferred
+ Valid Driver License is required; must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Vanderbilt University engages a third party to provide up-to-date notifications regarding negative changes to motor vehicle records
Experience and Skills:
+ 5 Years of experience or the equivalent
+ Strong communication skills
+ Able to stand, stoop, crawl, work on elevated surfaces and be in awkward positions for extended periods of time.
+ Push, pull, lift and carry at least 70 pounds.
+ Able to work in various weather conditions
+ High work ethic
