Our client, a leading manufacturing firm in North Muskegon, MI, is seeking a skilled Plastics Process Engineer to join their team. Responsibilities:
- Monitor and develop processes to ensure product quality, timely deliveries, and cost-effectiveness.
- Create and implement new manufacturing plans, processes, and maintenance techniques to enhance productivity and quality.
- Determine and recommend capital equipment needs, supervise installation, and ensure timely delivery of cost-effective, specification-compliant equipment.
- Evaluate new product designs for optimal manufacturing capabilities, focusing on Continuous Improvement and manufacturability.
- Validate production processes using statistical methods to achieve world-class manufacturing standards.
- Prepare and present various reports and studies to keep supervisors informed of activities and progress.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and supporting materials to meet operational and customer needs.
- Establish and uphold engineering standards and records for the design, improvement, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.
- Collaborate with customer engineering departments to ensure products and processes exceed customer requirements.
- Support and input information for PPAP requirements for changes and launches.
- Oversee estimating, mold design review, mold build, material recommendations, and part approval management.
- Lead standardization efforts for molding process limits to minimize defective products through data analysis.
- Conduct process improvement initiatives focused on reducing cycle time, material conversion, and enhancing statistical capabilities.
- Assess and guide the purchase of primary and secondary plastics processing machinery and equipment.
- Support new injection mold development by participating in vendor design proposals and mold trials.
- Provide tooling and part design input and expertise for plastic components/prints.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Plastics Engineering or other Technical Engineering discipline.
- At least 4 years of engineering experience in design within the injection molding or related industry.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in high-volume Injection Molding.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Scientific Injection Molding processes and studies (Gate Seal, Flow, Cooling Time, etc.).
- Proven ability to troubleshoot issues using disciplined root cause analysis tools.
- Experience using computer-aided design (CAD) systems.
Preferences:
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with internal and external customers and suppliers.
- Experience in Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of statistical methods for process validation.
- Ability to develop and maintain detailed process documentation.
- Familiarity with PPAP requirements and standards.
- Expertise in mold design and material recommendations.
