About the Job
Plant Operator
The Plant Operator is a member of the Production Team at Blue Ridge Biofuels with the goal to ensure production goals are met and that the fuel meets current ASTM D-6751 standards for biodiesel fuels. This position also helps maintain production equipment and make necessary adjustments to equipment to maximize fuel production. In order to ensure all aspects of this multifaceted position are performed as expected, measurable metrics will be provided along with regularly scheduled performance reviews. The Production Team members report to the Production Manager.
Responsibilities
Fuel Production and Plant Operations
- Receive incoming inventory and raw materials
- Perform all steps in the production process including feedstock processing, biodiesel production, and quality control
- Out going product loading
- Maintain production equipment
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Maintain paper and electronic production logs and compliance reports
- Communicate daily with Production Manager on production achievements and hurdles
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for plant operations
- Participate in training programs for plant operators
Safety
- Participate in the safety plan and follow all procedures and checklists
- Attend safety trainings
- Report any safety issues that arise or any actions that are out of compliance with the safety plan to the production Manager and/or CEO
Maintenance of Production Equipment
- Assist Production Manager in monitoring production plant equipment for performance and repairs
- Assist Production Manager in coordinating or performing repairs to equipment
- Assist with installation of new process equipment
- Keep production facility, both interior and exterior areas, clean and organized
- Maintain a clean and organized tool room and company tools
- Maintain a clean and organized production office and laboratory
Fuel Quality Assurance
- Perform quality control tests on incoming feedstock
- Sample and test biodiesel throughout the production process to meet quality standards
- Help collect, prepare, and ship product samples to third-party laboratories
- Help maintain retention samples
- Communicate with Production Manager regarding all fuel quality related issues
- Complete other duties as needed
Pay Rate
Dependent on Experience
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent degree
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Three or more years of manufacturing experience, including quality control, required
- Mechanical skills
- Knowledge of biodiesel production
- Keen attention to detail
- Experience with computers including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Cloud Computing (Google Drive, Google Forms, and Google Sheets highly preferred)
- Experience in a fuel company or chemical production facility preferred
- Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills and presentation skills
