ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY
Wastewater Plant Operator
Wastewater Plants Sugar Land
SUMMARY OF POSITION:The purpose of this position is to safely operate and maintain wastewater treatment plants; ensure compliance with permits; regulate process controls; and maintain plant efficiency. This is accomplished by collecting samples; performing analysis on water/wastewater samples for process monitoring and reportable analysis; monitoring the operation of the plant; adjusting plant valves, flows, and return rates; adjusting chemical dosages as needed; running various analytical tests; calibrating and maintaining lab and equipment; operating the sludge press and conventional areas of the plant; entering data from lab analysis; and possibly conducting local laboratory testing. Other responsibilities include performing general and preventative plant maintenance; ensuring discharged water is good quality; ordering supplies and chemicals for treatment; properly maintaining buildings and grounds; maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment; and any other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of methods, practices, and equipment used in all sections of wastewater treatment systems including activated sludge wastewater process, solids treatment, and energy recovery; materials, methods, and techniques used in construction, maintenance, and electrical repairs; vehicle maintenance and repair; and welding and pipe fitting; methods, practices, and equipment used in a wastewater laboratory; state and federal regulations regarding wastewater treatment; and basic knowledge of chemistry; and safety procedures and first aid training. Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:. High school graduation, or its equivalent, and five years of experience in wastewater treatment system operations; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
POSTING DATE: July 6, 2018 STARTING DATE: September 1, 2018.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position will require some rotating 24-hour on-call duty for emergency calls.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Current Texas driver's license and a good driving record are required as this position will be required to travel as needed to other locations. A company vehicle will be available for such travel. A valid Class "D" Wastewater License is required for this position, higher certification preferred.
SALARY: $14.06 to $21.80 per hour (depending on qualifications). This is a non-exempt position.
