Reporting to the General Manger, the Plant Manager will oversee all aspects of manufacturing operations at the production facility. This individual will ensure the efficient, safe, and cost-effective production of high-quality products, while managing a team of approximately 20 union and non-union employees, maintaining equipment, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Operations Management:
Oversee the daily operations of the plant to ensure smooth production and timely delivery of products.
Ensure production targets are met while adhering to quality and safety standards.
Identify and resolve production issues, including bottlenecks, delays, or equipment breakdowns.
Team Leadership:
Lead, motivate, and supervise a team of production staff, including operators, maintenance personnel, and supervisors.
Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team skills and knowledge.
Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and provide feedback to employees.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
Budget and Cost Control:
Develop and manage the annual plant budget, ensuring cost control and resource optimization.
Monitor and control inventory levels, raw material usage, and energy consumption to minimize waste and costs.
Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or safety.
Health, Safety, and Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Develop, implement, and enforce safety protocols and procedures.
Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to prevent accidents or violations.
Ensure adherence to company policies, including quality assurance and environmental sustainability standards.
Quality Control:
Oversee the implementation of quality control measures to maintain product consistency and customer satisfaction.
Address and resolve any quality issues in production processes or finished products.
Work closely with the Quality Assurance department to conduct inspections and audits.
Maintenance and Equipment Management:
Supervise the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment, ensuring they are in optimal working condition.
Implement a preventative maintenance schedule to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment.
Lead efforts to upgrade or replace outdated machinery as needed.
Continuous Improvement:
Foster a culture of continuous improvement by utilizing lean manufacturing techniques, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
Identify and implement process enhancements to increase production efficiency and product quality.
Encourage innovative ideas from the team to drive productivity gains and cost reductions.
Reporting and Communication:
Prepare and present regular reports on production performance, quality metrics, and financials to senior management.
Communicate effectively with other departments, including sales, logistics, and customer service, to address production-related concerns.
Participate in regular meetings to align production strategies with company goals.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or professional certifications (e.g., Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean Manufacturing) is a plus.
Minimum 5-7 years of safety experience in a manufacturing environment
3 years in a leadership or management role (20-50+ direct and indirect reports)
3 yrs of OSHA compliance
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, including injection molding, extrusion, and blow molding (if applicable).
Proficient in using manufacturing software, ERP systems, and MS Office tools.
In-depth knowledge of quality control, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to various machinery and industrial settings.
Occasional lifting and carrying of equipment or materials.
Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility during working hours.
****Candidates should live an easy commuting distance as the Plant Manager may be called to the site at off hours since this company runs three shifts around the clock.
