About the Job
The Plant Manager is responsible for effectively planning, directing, and coordinating all facility operations. Through delegation of responsibility and assignment of duties to managers and supervisors, the Plant Manager achieves efficient and economical operation of the plant, conforming to the established goals of quality, quantity, safety, cost, and delivery.
Essential Functions:
Control quality, cost, warehousing, receiving, shipping, and manufacturing throughout the plant.
Perform such individual assignments as the Director of Operations may direct; establish and maintain effective work relationships within the facility, the Corporation, and the community; and maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
Perform those administrative and employee relations activities necessary for the effective management of the facility, including participation in interviewing and selection and development of employees, pay and benefits administration, budget administration, employee safety, employee counseling and motivation, training and development initiatives, organization goals and objectives, and planning, organizing, communication meetings, integrating and measuring the work performed.
Analyze operating reports and records. Recommend or take corrective actions to promote continuous improvement.
Stay abreast of developments and trends in manufacturing for application in plant, recommend changes in policies and procedures as appropriate.
Develop performance standards and production layouts for product flow through specific operations. Maintain close surveillance and control over plant operations, through perusal of reports, staff meetings, observations, and personal contact. Assure coordination of plant functions, responsibilities, budgetary performance, manpower utilization, skills, equipment, facilities and production control and inventory control systems.
Be responsible for and/or involved in creating methods to drive efficiencies.
Contribute to management teams responsible for organized change, problem recognition/resolution resulting in cost reductions, work simplifications, method improvements and work aids.
Motivate all plant employees, encouraging optimum productivity. Develop, train, assist and advise supervisors and administer company policies and procedures knowledgeably.
Encourage employee communication and endorse an open-door policy.
Plan and determine manpower requirements based on an understanding of corporate goals and objectives. Recommend procedural improvements and projects to facilitate new product production.
Act as a liaison between the Director of Operations and workforce concerning problems as they pertain to the company. Keep staff informed on matters of new policy, procedures, corporate philosophy, and decisions.
Maintain building, grounds, and equipment to provide and sustain a safe, healthy, and quality working environment for maximum efficiency, productivity and return on investment.
Authorize payments of local expenses for the plant to a predetermined maximum. Provide documentation and cost justification for projects requiring outside services and materials and/or corporate approval.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience or Assistant Plant Manager
Two years of plant management experience, or four years of production manager experience in a steel bridge fabrication plant
Proficient in Google Suite, Strumis and other relevant applications
Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal communication skills
Proven track record in employee development and assessment
Experienced in managing and evaluating employees
Understanding of estimating hours worked to complete tasks at the shop level

General office, production environment and plant operation. Daily exposure to computer display and shop environment.
